Actually if they play too hard and lose 1-0 is worse than slowing down towards the end and lose 3-0. The goal is not to win all games in this round. The goal is to win 2 out of 3 or win one and tie one to have a chance for second place. The most important game from US standpoint is the next one against Slovenia especially if Slovenia beats Algeria.
