Actually it is very smart if him. You see, instead of laying -110 at the current line of +2.5, he is taking +1 at a line of +120 (since there will be no rake betting with other posters). So in the end he is really selling 1.5 points for 30 cents on the dollar, which is the going rate at sportsbooks; the only difference is he is getting a full point advantage on the +125 moneyline offered at sportsbooks for only 5 cents on the dollar at +1 (+120).
