#2I hope not, eminem is very over rated. Because he is white and because the industry needed a white rapper who everybody loves, eminem got the nod to stardom.
Sammy the vast majority of people who listen to mainstream rap have no idea what good rap is.
There are very few good rap artists today. Rap had its heyday between about 1987 and 1997. That 10 year period produced the greatest rappers and producers we have had so far. It came to a screeching halt in 1997. Thats when JayZ, eminem, 50 cent and other over rated rappers rose to stardom because the ignorant white population could care less about buying an album that they have no clue about.Comment -

#12Originally posted by ouman101I'm interested to hear who your "good" rappers are from the early 90's? I don't care what color Eminem is, his early stuff was better than anyone's at the time.
Black Moon, Tribe Called Quest, **, Organized Konfusion, Outkast (their grammy album/love below/speakerboxxx was actually the worst album(s) they ever came out with), Cool Breeze, Goody Mob, Mobb Deep, Killa Army, pretty much all the offshoots from ** tang but Gravediggaz may be even better than ** themselves, De La Soul (bahloon mind state may be the best album ever produced), handsome boy modeling school, and I'm just scratching the surface here. Kirb and Chris (newer group for you here), Micranots, Black Sheep, Jeru the Damaja, I could go on and on with rappers that are just so far ahead of Eminem there is no comparison. Production wise on their albums and lyrically.Comment -

#13Originally posted by WileOutAny rapper from Freestyle Fellowship (best the Bloods have to offer rap wise) would rip Eminem to shreds. Well they are all probably mid 40's but still could easily. Same with Pharcyde, Souls of Mischief (anyone from hiero crew really but souls are out of this world), the Coup, and those 3 are just a few from the bay area. ATCQ, **, and Outkast are really the only ones comparable to Eminem.[B][B]They key isn't getting rich quick. The key is getting rich slowly, and enjoying it.

#1499% of the really good rap is/was not played on the radio unless its on a hip hop specialty satellite radio station. Keith Murray would be part of the 1% exception.
bigOmar its funny because the 3 you gave are the only 3 that were ever mainstream. You have never listened to the rest have you?Comment -

#16Prob my favorite Eminem verse ever:
Last night I O.D.'d on rust, mushrooms and dust
and got rushed to the hospital to get my system flushed
(Shucks!) I'm an alcoholic and that's all I can say
I call in to work, cause all I do is frolic and play
I swallow grenades, and take about a bottle a day
of Tylenol 3, and talk about how violent I'll be (RRARRRRH)
Give me eleven Excederin my head'll spin
Medicine'll get me revvin like a 747 jet engine
Scratched my balls til I shredded skin
"Doctor, check this rash, look how red it's been"
"It's probably AIDS!" Forget it then
I strike a still pose and hit you with some ill flows
that don't even make sense, like dykes usin dildos
So reach in your billfolds, for ten ducats
and pick up this Slim Shady shit that's on Rawkus
Somethin somethin somethin, somethin I get weeded
My daughter scribbled over that rhyme, I couldn't read it[B][B]They key isn't getting rich quick. The key is getting rich slowly, and enjoying it.

#17Let me make this one last comment. Rap is an art. The production of rap beats is an art. There is a small percentage of people who can actually "hear" the music and make a call objectively (some of it is subjective but arguing whether eminem is better than Killa Army is not subjective for those who can hear the music). For those who have an ear for rap, the Micranots are in another dimension compared to eminem. When we listen to micranots, its like we snort a line of coke, its just that good. eminem doesn't do that for us.
Let me explain. I don't have many friends now but 7 years ago (before I got into drugs real bad), I had a lot of friends. Black, white, and hispanic. I would say that about 5% of my friends who claimed to like rap music all agreed that the underground groups for the most part just came up with far better quality stuff than what is played on the radio. For the other 95% that claimed to like rap, they only would listen to what was played on the radio and when we tried to play them something better they would say "naw maing that is sh*t music" or something similiar. For the 5% of us, it became clear that we had some kind of special "ear" for being able to hear and appreciate what the real rappers were coming out with.
For the underground rappers, they all could have made watered down music to suit the masses, but they know in 150 years it will be their music that is still played by those who can really hear rap music. To them that is worth more than money.
Its funny, Outkast only really became famous after they released Stankonia. That album was good, but before that album was released, their 3 really great albums were almost ignored by the mainstream masses. Then they release Stankonia, which was the worst album they had produced to date, and they are on the radio every other day, and they become totally mainstream. That leads to their worst album ever which was the double album speakerboxxx/love below, and they won grammy for best album of the year. That just goes to show how the mainstream really has no clue what is good rap and what isn't. They want to embrace rap because they think its cool, but they aint got a clue what is really good hip hop.
As for white rappers, Pauls Boutique by the Beastie Boys is the best rap album ever released by a white group. As far as white rappers go, this is my list from best to worst of white rappers.
1. Beastie Boys
2. El-P
3. 3rd Bass
eminem is somewhere down here. There are actually a lot of white rappers now and at least 10 of them are better than eminem and come out with better material. You will never hear them on the radio though.Comment -
