If I understood it right, he called and tried to extort the money from the mom, saying he would give her info on what happened to her daughter. The mom then called the FBI, and the money was arraigned for him to recieve it from the mom. I dont see why thats a problem, if he tried to get money from the mom for info. JMO.

Probably has to do with him being questioned by feds, giving false information, skating with cash.
