    157 year old woman??
157-year old women 'discovered' in Indonesia

A census in Indonesia resulted in the discovery of a 157-year old women. At least that's what officials say. Her name is Turinah and she lives on the island of Sumatra.

Turinah also has an adopted daughter of 108 years old. The census officials say that she is born in 1853 although there are no official documents to confirm it. "Turinah told us she was 157, and based on her statement and the age of her adopted daughter, it's hard to doubt it", says Johnny Sjardjono, the organiser of the census.

Turinah blames the lack of her official papers on politics. Allegedly she has burned them in 1965, during the Indonesian Killings where half a million people died due to a communist coup.

The 157-year old is in good health and she still does her chores around the house. "She has an excellent memory and hears very well", Sjardono said.

The only human being that ever past the 120 barrier was a French women named Jean Calment, who died at the age of 122.

impossible. She's measuring a year differently than 365 days with 24 hours of 60 minutes with 60 seconds.

The human body can not do that!

so if she is 157 years old, the bigger headline is that they have found a fukin' ET in Indonesia!

I remember reading long ago that we should all live way longer then we do. We have picked up so many bad habits it doesn't happen much anymore. Like breathing for one, supposedly we don't even breath right anymore. Let's not even mention our diets.

your grandma did not see the invention of cars & planes, those were before her time.

maybe in tennessee they didn't have those modes of transportation yet, but the rest of the union did.

I believe this story. My grandmother lived to be 104 and she sipped on straight whiskey all day and smoked unfiltered cigarettes. She also went and got 3 Masters degrees after the age of 65 because she found out it was free from the university.

Considering she was still going to water aerobics and tap dancing classes until a week before she died, I can only imagine how long she would've lived if she had a more pure lifestyle.

shari, that's awesome your grandmama lived so long, but do you really think she could've pull through for another HALF CENTURY? even with healthy living?

passing the century mark isn't that uncommon nowadays, but passing the 110 year mark still is very unachievable. the aging process accelerates dramatically the older you get.

To be honest, I don't know how long she would've lived but no, I don't think she would've lived another 50 years mainly because at that age, most people die from being unable to heal from a broken bone and she was always running around doing something. But I don't think it's completely unfeasible to think this woman's lived that long if she's been careful and of course, lucky. The part that makes me believe her is that she didn't actively seek to give out this information. It's only because the Census takers arrived at her hut that they found out about her at all.

                                              I find this part interesting:

RNW says Turinah claimed to be born in 1853 and is able to describe the huge eruption of the Krakatao volcano between the islands of Java and Sumatra in Indonesia in June 1883, which she said she saw with her own eyes. In the year of her birth, street signs were authorized in San Francisco intersections for the first time, the first electric telegraph was used, the U.S. began minting $3 gold pieces and Giuseppe Verdi's Opera La Traviata premiered in Venice.

you have no fukin idea what you're talkin' about. because someone invents something in their garage doesnt mean its fukin available immediately. Planes were not in commercial use until WELL after WW1. Automobiles were not readily available to the pubic until the 20's but the majority of the country didn't have them until the late 30's.
                                                  so wrong here profit

the first cars appeared around the late 19th century, and europe even had racing syndicates as early as the teens.

just because it isn't available to the mass public doesn't mean they don't know about them. come on now, they had communication back then as well.

and cars were readily available right AFTER WWI, it was affordable to the avg. man thanks to henry ford and the assembly line, 6th grade american history right there

and i said when they were invented, not when they are available to the masses. trust me, when the wright brothers took flight the country knew about it no later than a couple days after it happened.

The internet was invented before I was fukin born, but I consider someone born in 95-00 to have seen the creation of it because that's when it was readily available for their use. A cure for cancer has been created, but it will not be available for several years. The technology for commercial space flight is here now, but won't be available for several years. i know what you're saying but don't know why you're saying it though.

i said seeing the invention of such things. to you something being invented has to be available for mass consumption? interesting definition, to each his own i guess. to me those are two different concepts.

so by this logic written works weren't invented until the printing press, despite the fact that books were around for thousands of years before it. but since it wasn't available to the masses, it wasn't "invented".

                                                      just sayin'.

and cure for cancer? i thought that was still theoretical, dunno much about that.

I kind of find this impossible. The human body just can't last that long.
