    OT George Wallace shooter freed
No fan of George Wallace, but this is insane.

How about this one? Guy shoots a presidential candidate and leaves him paralyzed, and now he's free?

The man served his time, and was let out do to it being a (im guessing on the prison being a federal one) federal prison=gain time. If he had been tried and sent to a AL state prison he never would have been released.

The problem is he didnt kill anyone, he shoots 4 individuals, and manages to kill none of them. No magic bullets, like the JFK shootings.Hence he could only be charged with attempted murder.

Although, I tend to agree with your responce, "this is insane".

By the same standard, John Hinckley has served his time and should be freed. But he never will be.

Hinckley was found not guilty by reason of insanity, so I guess there is a different set of standards. Plus he has had weekend releases. Give it some more time, and he may to be released.

Like you said "this is insane".

I think a lot of it may be the fact that a lot of the powers that be wished harm on George Wallace from day one anyway. There's no doubt this individual should not be free.

I still to this day believe we'd be saying "President Wallace" if not for this incident, as his popularity was really gaining and his message was resonating with a lot of people that were previously unexpected to get behind him (i.e. Northern voters with money). Sad incident that no doubt greatly shaped the country's future...

What the heck, George Wallace offered his forgiveness to Mr. Bremer. I'm surprised he only served 35 years.

But still, he cannot leave the state and there are many guidelines That Bremer has to follow. Or it's back to Oz...
