Pretty crazy storm. Tornado stayed about 6 miles north of my house. Avoided populated areas for the most part, this tornado is still on the ground heading west. Didn't know they stayed on the ground so long

Tornados hit central Illinois

A severe storm system moved through Illinois Saturday night, bringing mostly heavy rain to the Chicago area but spawning tornados that damaged a swath of north-central Illinois in a line generally from Peoria to Kankakee.
The brunt of the storm system passed through south of the I-80 corridor, with reports of tornados touching down near Peoria, Streator, Dwight and Kankakee before the system moved off into Indiana.
About 10:20 p.m. a tornado was spotted near St. Anne, about 7 miles southeast of Kankakee, moving east at 35 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
There was a report of a tornado touchdown near Peoria a little after 8 p.m., at a shopping center at routes 150 and 91. Another tornado was sighted near Streator, with damage reports there and in Putnam County.
About 9:18 p.m. a possible tornado was reported near Dwight, as the storm moved east toward Kankakee and Indiana. As of early Sunday, emergency crews were out in force and reports of the extent of the damage were beginning to come in.

Eddie Lavallie, who lives in Oglesby, about 8 miles south of Streator, said he drove through Streator soon after the tornado hit and he saw a lot of damage, especially on the south side of town.
"I saw people coming out of their homes right after the tornado hit; a second story of a house was taken off," Lavallie said.
He saw old trees, 3-feet-wide, split in half. "Streator is just devastated," he said.
Lavallie was 5 miles behind the storm, following the tornado on I-18, he said.
"I saw a black cloud, whenever the lightening would strike," he said. "I heard trees cracking. I saw people coming out of their houses, dazed, with flashlights."
Lavallie described the scene on the south edge of Streator as a "war zone."
"The city is leveled," he said.
Lavallie said he didn't see any injuries, but he heard neighbors calling for neighbors. Live wires were in the streets, he said.
He also found a couple of girls who couldn't find their home on 6th Street. "I just hope those people down there are OK; my hopes and prayers are with them."
Ameren Illinois Utilities issued a release early Sunday, warning of broken utility poles and downed power lines throughout portions of central Illinois.
Residents in areas without lights should not venture outdoors after dark, and when daylight returns, residents should stay away from downed wires. Furthermore, stay away from brush, downed trees and limbs and any debris that may conceal downed power lines, the utility warned.
