Looks like this was a scam, Peterson is supposedly in isolation and therefore couldn't have told anyone where he buried her. I also don't think he would go this long and then finally tell someone. I think if they don't find anything today they will call off the dogs.

False alarm, they found nothing. Looks like it was a scam as Peterson's trial for his first wife's death is upcoming and they want to get his name out there as a murderer to be fresh for a jury.

Correct. The guy was a cop for years and likely knew how to get away with a murder as he has seen it all. Her remains are probably in a landfill somewhere.

The weekend search for Stacy Peterson on a wooded parcel outside Peoria turned up two possum skeletons and a makeshift drainage trench but no trace of the missing Bolingbrook woman, an anthropologist says.
Even the animal skeletons discovered during the day of digging were 40 to 50 years old — indicating nothing had been buried there recently.
“There was nothing fresh at all,’’ said anthropologist Alan Harn, an assistant curator at the Dickson Mounds Museum near downstate Lewistown.
Peterson hasn’t been seen since vanishing from her home in October 2007. Her husband, former Bolingbrook police Sgt. Drew Peterson, has been named a suspect in his fourth wife’s disappearance but hasn’t been charged.
He is charged, though, with drowning third wife Kathleen Savio in 2004 — a crime for which he is scheduled to stand trial next month.
A tip led the Illinois State Police to search the area near Peoria. Harn excavated two small sites selected by cadaver-sniffing dogs.
Harn — whose work in 2005 led to the arrest of serial killer Larry Bright — said he suggested that investigators use ground-penetrating radar or a magnetometer that locates underground metals if they want to continue searching the site for Stacy Peterson’s remains.
A State Police spokesman wouldn’t confirm a return to the site, but he hinted that more work might be done there soon.
‘‘I certainly wouldn’t close the door to this week,’’ Master Sgt. Tom Burek said.
