Baseball vs Cricket - Why isn't Cricket popular in USA?
I don't understand how baseball is popular here and cricket isn't. Cricket games last longer but provide a lot more action and excitement especially one day and 20/20 matches.

I went to an Angels games recently and it appeared like some fielders would watch a ground ball go by and not even attempt to make a dive for it like a high level cricketer would, and the sad thing is most baseball players get paid ten times as much.

Also what is with the pussy mitt they use in baseball? Do they lack the hand eye coordination to catch a ball without one? Check out the kind of catches cricketers pull off with nothing but their bare hands.

i never quite understood the point/scoring system, and i'm sure most americans wouldn't understand it. and u say it lasts LONGER than a baseball game?? these games are already 3 hrs and more. i say no sporting event should be over 2 hrs. ridiculous.

i've always wanted to learn about foreign sports though, like rugby, AFL, cricket etc...

Cricket is big in countries that were colonized; the British were chucked here by the time cricket became big.

Cricket players do not have to catch lethal balls that are going close to 100mph speeds after they are hit from a 90mph pitch from a power position, chest high; unlike catching a ball that was scooped off the ground and lofts through the air at a lower velocity.

Those are some nice catches though.

I see the point if an infielder is catching it straight off the bat, but a lot of catches in baseball are fly balls just looped in the air.

Now try catching a cricket ball that comes from the bowler at 90 mph (or faster if your name's shoab akhtar) in the slips. The ball is still travelling at 75mph at that point

I think it's because of how complicated it seems for those unfamiliar with it. I had a finance professor from Trinidad who tried to explain it to me but I couldn't understand it. I would probably have to sit down and put some effort into understanding it.

99.9% of Americans don't understand the soccer offside rule. You expect them to know the cricket rules?

Having grown up with cricket I never thought the rules of cricket were complex at all but I guess I was wrong because it would take way too much effort for me to attempt to explain them and the rules made "simple" I googled are 4-5 pages long.
