This past Memorial Day weekend I took my girlfriend on a getaway to MGM Grand Detroit. It's only about 2.5 hours from Cleveland and the hotel is absolutely baller. The basic king room has a 32' flatscreen, two touch screen phones, dimmers on all the lights, 300 thread count sheets with an ultra comfortable bed that we put to good use. I'm sure our neighbors hated us, but the walls seemed thick enough.
The bathrooms are huge and the mirror has a built in flatscreen hooked into the Bose sound system.
The service at MGM was fantastic and I even had the concierge decorate the room with rose peddles and a bouquet of roses after our day at the spa. Best massage I've ever had and worth every cent. The spa was great, although no outside pool is a bummer.
Casino --- Slots galore, or as we said, "there are way too many Sluts around here." My luck was absolute shit and I don't usually play slots because I can't stand the machine controlling my money. I only spent $150 of my $2k bankroll in the slots. Once it was in, it never hit.
Yes, I was there to gamble on sports and didn't know that Michigan has a law against Sports betting. Losers.
So I hit the tables.
Table Games: I consider myself an intermediate to experienced blackjack player, I know basic strategy and can get a good feel for the hi-lo count. The tables were moderately priced at night anywhere from $10 - $50 per hand, as low as $5 during the day with no auto-shuffle. Let me repeat - my luck was shit - I had my girl cut the deck and within the first 10 hands playing the dealer straight up she showed an ACE 4 times and a 10 3 times. She never busted and before I knew it was down $500 and out my budget for the day. Similar luck repeated again the next two days. I've gone on $3-5k swings in casinos before but this was absolutely the worst.
My biggest issue with the hotel is after spending $300 for two nights, $350 in restaurants, $150 in drinks, losing $2k in the casino and spending $400 in the spa --- they didn't comp a damn thing. $3,500 in two days and not a thing.
Overall we had a great time, its hard not to spending that kind of money but let me just say when it comes to gambling stick to Vegas boys.
