I let my friend bet on my bookie account (i know bad idea). But he lost 1k at first and paid me and wanted me to ask the bookie for 2000 more credit. He lost that 2000 on 4 soccer games (he knows jack-shit about soccer). It's been a few months now and I know he doesn't have the money. I'm thinking about letting it go as 2000 is not that much to jeopardize our friendship, but he let me borrow to pay off a couple of loans a month ago and now is asking me to pay him back. He loaned me about 1500. I don't really want to remind him of the 2000 he owes me but do I have any other choice?

#2I don't surround myself around people who would even ask me for a loan. I wouldn't loan them money anyways, it would never happen.המוסד

#7I have a friend who is a poker player...... all gamblers go bust once in a while, and we've owed each other as much as 4000 dollars at once. Right now, I owe him about 1000 dollars. It is always good to have an out, but we are always good about paying each other back.Comment -

#9Basically, I would have a sit down with him and talk about the loan, the bets, and where you feel that he stands, and he can relay where he thinks that you stand, and come to a compromise. If the friendship is really there, you will work it out as long as no one gets emotional.Comment -

#14I'd just ignore the issue until he brings it up again that you owe him $1,500...then tell him that as soon as he repays you the $2,000 that he owes, then you can repay your loan to him. Bottom line is that he still owes you $500.Comment -

You're really helping him out in his current situation
Dude, you have to remind him of the bets. This is the PERFECT time. Be glad that you'll be down at most $500 now. What does he think, your bookie won't collect the 2 dimes from you?Comment -

#19the fact that he is asking for the 1500 seems odd. He has forgotten that he owes you money, or something is up.
Why would you "borrow" money from someone that owes you money? That doesn't make any sense.
Like what others have said, sit down with the guy, and talk about the money is being owed to each other. Work something out. 500-2000 dollars isn't worth losing a real friend over.
Payment plan? Ask him to pay you a 100 a month for the next 5 months.
I lend money to family and friends (amounts I don't care if they pay back or not) with out a set time for them to pay me back. But when I have borrowed money, I have always set up when i would have them payed back by; so it is something over my head that i want to get rid of.Comment -
