I think if he can stay away from walks he might have a chance. Sometimes he tries to get too fine and ends up losing hitters. How did Gooden get 1.53 in 85? Were the mound higher then?

No he was just really good -

However it still isnt as good as Pedro's 1.74 he posted in 2000 -

When Gooden posted his his 1.53 the 2nd place person was John Tudor at 1.93 -
The person in 2nd when Pedro posted his 1.74 was Clemens with at 3.70.

Goodens ERA+ (a comparison of ERA that year) was 229 (10th), Pedros was 291, the best is history since 1900 ( only Tim Keefe in 1880 posted a better) - gibson was 268 and ranks 6th.

We all know it won't happen this year....or well it will be virtually impossible but it was fun to follow. I hope to see him get 25 wins though, in this era it would be incredible.

I hope he doesn't win another game and ends the year 13-15 with an ERA over 3.6

Yeah, I agree. Though, he'll still probably win the Cy Young this year. This whole decade in the NL has been dominated by the pitching of the Western division.

I'm with you he's gotten off to a great start but it's a long season. He may end with a great ERA number but odds are he won't beat Gibson's record. It's pretty tough to keep that up all season.

Why are you rooting against him. He is probably the most humble player out there.
