Why does the ball change for every world cup?

It seems like every world cup the ball changes and players complain about it. Why wouldn't there just be a standard ball that doesn't ever change?

They are collector's items. When you have 2 billion people watching the games you want to sell as much merchantise possible. Every dad has to buy the new ball for his kids.

Theyve been doing this since the first World Cup. In a way its a collectors item. Also, I remember when the 2002 ball came out. Addidas put in alot of work on that ball. Year in and year out the balls technology gets better. I love seeing the new balls every world cup.

It's all about the Benjamins....merchandising is a beautiful thing.....slap that World Cup logo on it and sell it around the world for millions $$

Its a marketing scheme so they can sell exclusive World Cup Soccer merchandise. Also every few years the ball and the bladder within the ball gets better and that is one of the reasons why you can bend the ball so much nowdays.

It's just the best event to show off the new technologies they develop, just imagine how much profit it brings to the company producing the ball just because it was the official world cup's ball, every kid wants one, I used to want one too after every world cup. Huge marketing season...
