In light of this week's Eddie Curry news: OWING thousands of dollars despite an $11M per year $60M contract, not knowing which cars he owns, taking out a half mil loan at 85% interest etc., isn't it time for the NBA to adapt new policies and rules for drafting high school athletes?
Here's one:
Legallly holding the majority of their contract money in escrow until they're 21 years old. If they're not going to college, force them to take some financial management & reality course. As there are no COMMON SENSE courses available in life, isn't there something practical to be done here?
Oh..and before we start dividing this up racially, Google the Lenny Dykstra story. You can be an incredibly dumb 35 year old broke caucasion with no sense as well.
Somehow I think these guys can survive on say $200,000 a year with all expenses paid while the money earns some interest for 3 years.
For every LeBron and Kevin Garnett are going to be 20 others wasting their lives while you waste your money buying tickets supporting them.
Any thoughts??
