What would you say right now after that disgraceful inning from Morton (once again)? Would you fire him the next day?

#2if pirate gm's got fired everytime their pitchers had a bad first inning (guys like duke, maholm ect have been notorious for first inning woes for years) they'd be on their 98th gm since 2000Comment -

#4thing about morton is that he has great stuff... best stuff on the staff....
he just is a mental midget....
to answer the original question, now that I understand it better....
this GM traded Nate McClouth to the braves and Morton was in the package..... he is gonna give him every opportunity to turn his season around.....
Pirates are looking to compete in 2012 basically, they should figure out now what they have with some of their "projects" before then... they really have nothing to lose....
doesn't matter much if they win 55 games and finish last or win 71 games and finish last, if you ask me..
so no I think unless Morton still has minor league options left. (he prob does) He'll be pitching for a bit longer in the pirates organizationComment -

#8yeah and pirates have had more than a few "head cases"... what they call million dollar arms with 10 cent heads...
guys like Kris Benson, Kip Wells, Ian Snell.... Morton should be the next in that line...
if you look at his last 5 starts before tonight... 4 of them were decent, so he seemingly had turned a corner...
he is usually the victim of one really really bad inning..
wouldn't suprise me to see him go 6-7 innings and not give up a run the rest of the way and strike out 7.... or get taken out in the 2nd.... either one would not suprise meComment -

#9Well, 1st off, Morton pitched OK last year ( 4.55ERA, 4.15FiP, 5.8K/9, 49% GB) and he's still fairly young, just 26 this year.
But the Pirates really have to figure out if he's going to be a successful major leaguer - While he's been a grease fire so far this year, he's seemed to be improving allowing 3 or less runs while pitching 6 innings is 3 of his last 4 starts.
The Pirates aren't competing this year, and under the best case scenario not next year either - so they need to figure out what to do with players like Morton - see if he can help them going foward by either being a part of the team or flipping him for younger talent - While I said Morton was fairly young at 26, as Yogi Berra said " It gets late early out there"Comment -

#10I would never take the job as GM for the simple fact you must pay for your product and the Pirates are the stingiest in the business when it comes to the Money category so as a GM your hands are tied behind your back when you can't choose your product...............Comment -

#15A good start would be to convince the owner to sell the team to Mark Cuban, who's from the area and would love to own the team. Cuban is a bozo much of the time, but there's no questioning his willingness to spend money and field a contender.Comment -
