Alright Old Timers, Set Me Straight On Elvis Presley's Movies...
Disclaimer: Those 25 and under who spend their weekends popping pimples and playing dungeons and dragons or whatever online feel free to skip to the next thread....

I'm supposed to go over to this lady's house Friday evening, and she said that I would appreciate Elvis' movie Blue Hawaii. Talk about a surprising suggestion! Said it's not a thinking man's movie, but is great nostalgia with a good soundtrack. I think I've seen a little bit of it, but more importantly I don't recall Elvis being in any particularly great movies.

Those familiar with Elvis' acting career set me straight. Were there some pretty good movies in there that I missed out on (fun and quirky is OK too), or should I suggest we hit Blockbuster for a new release lol?

    Thanks for the movie nostalgia...

Typical early 60s beach blanket movie, maybe the 1st one. IMO, if you have seem one beach blanket type movie youve seen them all. If you like EP musicals, you will be okay. As far as the surfing aspect of the movie, its a waste, and I say that as a 25 year experienced surfer.

Having said all this, if I had to watch one EP movie Blue Hawaii would be the one I watched. Its definatley fun and quirky type move. Id say go for it, if nothing else you can see some great shots of Hawaii before it got totally developed. I believe it was the 1st or 2nd movie he ever did (1961). I was like 1 year old then, so it was a a decade later before I got to see it.

If she is a EP freak and I am assuming you like watching sports, you should talk her into Kid Galahad, she gets her Elvis fix and you get to watch some boxing.

Are you crazy? Women LOVE Elvis movies. She will get in the "right" mood. Pretend you just love Elvis.

Sounds like you and your honey have a 35 year age difference?hehe!

You didn't mention you and your lady friends ages but something tells me you could be after MILFS,cougars or grannies or whatever they choose to call themselves these days.Is this Deuce Biggelow that posted this thread?hehe! Are you in it for the money or the sex? There are some hot middle aged broads but just remember that you better have all the fun you can now in a short time span because she's going to be wearing depends any day now.

When you look at the online personal ads these days, all the women want men starting 10-15 years younger and up to a couple years below their age.Men used to be called crib robbers by women back when they used to chase younger broads.

My wife's an Elvis freak so I've seen 'em all (also saw the King at a Houston Rodeo of all things back in the 1960s, but that's a story for another time). I'm not a true historian or connoisseur of his films, but do know that he had already done a half-dozen or so by the time Blue Hawaii came out. My advice Bollocks is to wear your very best Hawaiian shirt, take some fresh pineapple, coconut cream and rum to the lady's house and suggest a nearby diner for breakfast Saturday morning

LOL Wille Bee, now that's a suggestion if ever there was one. Between you and curious I'm convinced this is a step in the right direction

Brent I definitely like mature women. Always have. You're 100% right about some ladies robbing the cradle as much as men nowadays...

CP as an experienced surfer what would you say are the best surfer movies? I'm talking exotic locals, killer waves, etc. I loved both the Endless Summer's 1 and 2, and may look into buying them on Amazon. Is there anything else that even comes close? Cheers...

Rob I get the feeling your countdown to extinction has already begun. You REALLY don't wanna go there with me.

However, come to think about it, that might help to explain my charm and aptitude for the "geetar." I take back my first reaction, you might be on to something...

Bollocks, you could also bone up -- no pun intended -- on your Elvis knowledge before the evening kicks off. Or if you don't have time, try these lines to let her know that you are indeed a fan of The King and his movies...

                      1) "I really hated Speedway, just a rip-off of Viva Las Vegas plus Nancy Sinatra has to be the worst female lead he ever played opposite."

                      2) "I've always wondered about Elvis and Ann-Margret in Viva Las Vegas. Do you really think there was some 'double clutching' going on between the two off the set?"

                      3) "You know, Elvis wanted to do his own stunts in Fun in Acapulco, but the Colonel said no way."

                      4) "Elvis was at his best in Kid Galahad, though that will definitely not go down as one of Bronson's best films."

                      5) "Flaming Star truly showed off Elvis' serious side and how concerned he was for the plight of the American Indian in our society."

Damn Willie, you really do know your stuff. Most impressive. I know who my lifeline will be should an Elvis question ever arise

P.S. Nancy Sinatra, eh? You'd think any spawn of Franky would be able to hold her own...

Nah, not me, comes from hanging around my wife for the last 37 years or so and listening to all of her trivial BS about Elvis. Best of luck tonight

The best surfing movie/documentary is by far called "Riding Giants". I liked both the Endless Summers too, but wait till you see Riding Giants, your view will change. There are no actors in this flick, just real surfers. There is actuall footage of guys riding 50' waves, some real deaths surfing, plus great background music from a variety of rock bands.

Back (20 years ago), when I was still crazy enough to ride big waves (20-25') in Cali and Hawai. There were no wave runners to tow you out then, we paddled for an hour to get past the break.

Now at 48, Im resigned to not going out if its over 6', funny how getting older puts the fear of death in ya. But still get in the water dozens of times a year to ride 2-6' waves and have never lost the passion for it.

Hope you rent it or buy it you wont be dissapointed.

Thanks for the tip CP, that sounds exactly like my kind of movie. 50' waves, that's insane! I've got an Amazon giftcard I plan on using soon, and will definitely scarf that one up.
