    Oil industry ≠ competition
This BP accident is being used as an affront against capitalism. The oil industry is an Oligopoly. An example of a fairly competitive market would be the T-shirt market.

Yes, the state is the primary reason these corporations are created and sustained in the first place.

The state creates barriers to entry and reduces competition through: enforcing absurd regulations, enforcing copyright/patents, forcing business owners to have all these licenses (even for a menial profession like cosmetology), taxing, making it difficult to acquire rescources, etc, etc. The state also gives into corporate lobbyists and sides in their favor in law suits, sells them land, makes it particularly difficult for other businesses in the market, turns a blind eye to violations to their own regulations while enforcing them for other businesses, etc.

...and the big corporations get tax and regulations exemptions...and when all this fails, they get a bailout.

I think licensing is mainly done to increase union membership. I do agree with the gist of your post. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craft_union
