An intro, and one CFL tip . . .
    Hey all,
This is my first post, after a few weeks of quiet observation. Congrats, and sincere thanks, to all who post insightful, articulate thoughts on coming games. I'm pretty much a rookie at this, dabbling in football, hockey and baseball, but have held my own these first three months. I hope I can occasionally add to the intelligent conversation, while sidestepping the inane commentary that will come with the territory.
I will have several questions in the coming days. I'll begin with asking what is the best sports betting book one should consider buying? I play a lot of poker, and have waded through countless how-to poker books. Is it the same with sports betting, and is there one book that stands above the rest?
I'll share some NFL thoughts in the next couple days, but for now I suggest a look at the CFL (Canadian Football League) game this Saturday between Calgary and BC. Its the last week of the regular season, and both have their playoff positions locked up. But while Calgary is reportedly sitting their star quarterback, running back, and a starting receiver, BC is trying to work a pair of top quarterbacks back from injury before they enjoy a first round bye. I've noticed some sportsbooks still have BC as just a 7-point favorite, and I think this is a pretty good play.
    Good luck to you all,
    Bean

Hey Beaneaters, great to have someone as well thought out as yourself on this forum! Great signature line by the way. Thanks for the CFL write-up, I'll definitely look at that one very heavily because of you. Looking forward to hearing your NFL picks this weekend also.

As far as a fundamental sportsbetting book, I think many here would agree that "Sharp Sports Betting" by Stanford Wong would be the place to start. He lays out a lot of concepts that quickly advance the novice player in this book, but later spouts a fair amount of mathematical theory in discussing line derivation and such. GL and welcome Beaneaters...

      thanks BigB

Hey, thanks for the reply. I have seen the Wong book listed at Amazon, and was leaning that way. Hope the CFL game works out for you. Wasn't sure where to post my thoughts, it not being an NFL game and all. Talk to you again.

You can't ever go wrong just posting here in the players forum, as this is somewhat of the central hub. That book should help familiarize you with a lot of the ins and outs that solid handicappers use in assessing the game. Of course a lot of your subsequent success or failure will come as a result of your own hard work and money management. Cheers...
