I don't that's part of the Civil Rights Act. Discriminating on the basis of race, gender, religion, ethnicity is, however. Pretty simple.

I think what Rand Paul was trying to get across was..............

Private Businesses should be allowed to service whoever they want to. If they're racist or discriminate in anyway the public should handle it by boycotting and badmouthing their service. You would think in todays society we would not need laws like this. Anyways..

A lot of the public is calling Paul a bigot and a racist because it is easier than thinking about what he actually meant.

Politics is a joke regardless...Nothing but special interest puppets

To not allow voluntary discrimination between people in an exchange of property rights is to FORCE people to associate with one another. I support voluntary exchange.

It's funny though, because although it's technically "illegal" under the Civil Rights Act, people still do it. Asian small businesses in like China Town routinely do this and serve only Asians (literally shooing others away), but we never hear anything. And that's fine, but if a white business owner did this, there would be world wide uproar.

I think Holt's got it right.

Paul was referring to the idea that the government shouldn't be able to dictate to a private business owner that he MUST serve someone if he doesn't want to. If I own a business, I have the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason I want, even if it's based on race/religion/hair color/whatever.

And I agree, we shouldn't even need a law about this; if someone is overly discriminatory, their business will naturally suffer anyway. For example, if I discriminate against women by not serving them in my restaurant, that's fine, but I have to accept the consequences of eliminating 50% of my potential customers and probably going out of business.
