Help, did I mess up my first scalp?

I am so new to this, but please can you help explain the MLB run line handicapping system to me?

Yesterday I thought I found a small scalp (with the help of bonuses):

Cincinnati Reds (Cueto) at Cleveland Indians (Carmona)

Cleveland Indians (Carmona) +1.5 1.54 @ Book 1
Cleveland Indians (Carmona) -1.5 2.75 @ Book 2

The result was Cleveland lost 6-4.

I logged in this morning to check my results and find that both books have settled the bet as a losing bet.

Obviously something has gone horribly wrong, but as this is my first bet I don't understand how can both sides be losing this bet?

what is not to understand you didnt scalp you played the same team twice

You should have bet Cin +1.5 & Cle -1.5 or Cin -1.5 & Cle +1.5.
