Major League Baseball will finish this year with just over $6 billion in revenue, according to Bob DuPuy, MLB's president and chief operating officer.
Baseball's sales have increased 50 percent from 2004 and have doubled since 2000, CNN reported. DuPuy said that the level of growth this year had surprised even him and Commissioner Bud Selig.
“We have seen a healthy increase in every one of our revenue streams," DuPuy said. "We saw about a $0.5 billion from sources that really didn't exist 10 years ago."
DuPuy told CNN he expects revenue growth in the single digit percentage range in 2008 and an even bigger jump in revenue in 2009.

They should deduct from your check every time you make a dumb post. But then you will end up owing them money at the end of the month.

MLB players receive about 52% of all baseball revenues - NFL players get 59%, NBA 57%, NHL 56% -
In fact it looks more like MLB players are underpaid --

Are you new to baseball?
Attendance is down from the last couple of years but it is up huge from the 80s. Each team has 81 home games in stadiums seating 40K+. They aren't generally gonna draw to the % capacity as other sports. Also April and May are tough for attendance to do colder weather and kids still being in school.

Any different than any other athlete? They're all paid tons of money to play games.

Are you suggesting that the free market system in baseball should be discarded? It's not really a free market system because of revenue sharing. I don't see too many team owners complaining. They have a very nice cash business when it comes to concessions and parking.
I would like to see baseball consider a system like the European soccer leagues. This would force some teams to spend money on players and development in order to not be relegated to a lower league.

Yeah. Home stands in many cases almost seem irrelevant.
Who do you think has the worst fans. Just watched the D-Backs at home playing the Giants. Hardly anyone there, but enthusiastic fans; highly retarded (cheering when the other guys boot one in) unless that was SFO fans....

very dumb statement....
the market shows us the reality....
it doesn't make common sense that being good with a bat, or ball, or hockey stick should result in a salary equal to that of 400 school teachers.
but the market it bears it out.
if they didn't bring in alot more revenue as a whole, no one would pay them...
its tough to argue with the realities of the market
