#38If your really worried, if you are Polish and a citizen, you can move to the UK for a while as your an EU citizen, best place to be right now in this business. Sort out your finances here. If you transfer directly to the US, I think its something like any transfer over 10K gets reported if you do it via a US bank.Comment -

#39K9, I am Polish, but born and raised in US, have family, have decent job...but love betting on sports and hitting the online casino floor before I call it a night. This worked for years, losing more than I won before hitting the progressive. It's like a scarlet letter.
Here's my question (that I pretty much know the answer to...): Why can I deposit funds into my sportsbook/casino account that is coming in from the U.S. so easy, but when you want to withdraw anything of significance, the wrath of "Sam" is going to slam your ass? Can anyone answer this simple question. ARE THERE ANY LEGAL OFFSHORE GAMBLING SITES...both giving and receiving? If the answer is no, is everyone here just out to make a few bucks while losing more by watching sporting events to make them more interesting?Comment -

#42I think you need to talk to a lawyer who knows what the he'll he's talking about. Having a law degree does not make you an expert on every arcane area of the law. I should know, I have one. From what I understand about the Wire Act (but please reread my first two sentences), it only makes running a gambling BUSINESS illegal, and does not apply to those simply placing wagers. Thus the Wire Act does not apply to you. It's illegal to be a bookie but not illegal to place bets. Note that I say "not illegal" as opposed to "legal". There's a big difference.
Some states do have laws that specifically outlaw internet gambling, but they may not be enforceable since the act crosses state lines. Of course proving that, if some DA wants to get in the papers at your expense, would possibly eat up your winnings. I do know of one story where a pro got busted and they found $40K in cash in his house and he had over $300K in offshore accounts. The cops raided his house but only because they thought he was a bookie. As the story was told to me when then found out he just placed bets they were kind of embarrassed. Rather than spend the time and money to prove he wasn't a bookie, he chose to plea to a misdemeanor and got a slap on the wrist.
I would talk to an attorney that has a background in internet gambling. I know there's a law professor at Whittier in the LA area that is an expert. For $200K it's worth blowing a few grand on sound advice from someone who knows. But I think your fears are exaggerated. I doubt anyone will care as long as you pay the taxes. But for peace of mind just set up an offshore bank account and move the money there. Perfectly legal.Comment -

#48There is no issue receiving winnings. Players receive 5 figures regularly through standard methods. Just make sure you file your taxes accordingly.Comment -

#50I've been playing the same sportsbook/casino for 10 years...losing most of the time, but I have received a few checks (via DHL...couple hundred dollars to $1,500 max). Again, I was probably down at least $15-20K over the past 10 years. Early this week, I hit a $1 progressive slot machine for $232,000. Never would have imagined that happening!
Instead of feeling good about this, I now am facing the challenge of tyring to move these winnings into the U.S. (Pennsylvania, specifically). I am not trying to evade paying the taxes on the winnings. I would be glad to pay the 40%! However, I don't want to be arrested/possibly jailed, or have all of the money be taken from our crazy federal government, just because I transferred money into my bank account from my offshore sportsbook/casino.
ANY ADVICE?Comment -

#54This is baloney, an online casino wouldn't let you win that much off a dollar.
But I'm sure can wire huge amounts just bank wire style.
