The film's setting is a 1970s era professional football team based in Dallas, Texas named the North Dallas Bulls[1][2], which closely resembles the Dallas Cowboys. Nolte plays the aging wide receiver Phil Elliott, who is struggling to stay competitive and relies heavily on painkillers. Elliott and quarterback Seth Maxwell, played by Davis, characterize the drug-, sex-, and alcohol-fueled party atmosphere of teams of this era, under the watchful eye of iconic coach B. A. Quinlan, played by G.D. Spradlin.
Part drama, comedy, and satire, North Dallas Forty is widely considered a classic sports film, giving insights into the lives of professional athletes.[3]
Based on the semi-autobiographical novel by Peter Gent, a Cowboys wide receiver in the late 1960s, the film's characters closely resemble real-life team members of that era, with Seth Maxwell often compared to quarterback Don Meredith, Quinlan to Tom Landry, and Elliott to Gent. Of the story, Meredith said, "If I'd known Gent was as good as he says he was, I would have thrown to him more."

Fuk, forgot about Hoosiers. Thats great too, Rudy, excellent, Jerry Mcguire is hardly about sports, but whatever.
North Dallas Forty is gritty and real.

Brock I saw ND40 a long time ago, thought it was good, wasn't blown away, but I was young.
There is no baseball movie better than Bull Durham. The Natural is good but waay too slow, Field of Dreams was decent, For The Love Of The Game was pretty good, Major League is funny, but not a better overall movie IMO. 61 isn't bad, Cobb was alright but could have been better. The Fan just sucks, come on. That wasn't even the best movie of that month, much less best of all time.
