What you see here is what is typical in any male dominated setting. There has to be dominance. There has to be a way to show off to the others that you are better, wittier, more intelligent or just basically more manly. You would think that we had enough rationale to reserve that type of action to impress females. the fact that we do it with not females in site is kind of gay but we are what we are and it is what it is.

Besides, it would be one boring ass place if we all got along all the time. there has to be some friction to keep things entertaining.
