Ot: I Want One I Want One!!!....
The skycar by Moller is pretty cool but this one seems much more practical...

ahhh that sucks the animated picture of it didn't come up... oh well....

    I WANT ONE!!!

    Is it a car..is it a plane?

A US company have developed a car that can easily beat traffic jams - it can fly.

At the touch of a button the Transition from Terrafugia four-wheeled car extends a pair of wings either side of its main body.

Chief operating officer, Anna Mracek Dietrich, said: "It will take just a few seconds to transform and will be fully automated after the command is given in the cockpit. We're currently sold out for at least the first year, approaching the first two of production".

The Transition will use low-cost electronics and feature GPS and auto-pilot weather radar.

The prototype, which runs on super unleaded petrol, cruises at 120mph and lands at 65mph.

The estimated hourly fuel burn of four gallons equates to 30mpg in flight.

Terrafugia - which means escape from the earth - are selling for £74,000.

The company hopes the first car will be ready by next December.

People can't even drive on the road, now they have to learn how to fly as well. What a mess.

Hasn't Moller been trying to build a flying car for the past 30+ years?

TACO P.i.... Hey do you get pussy like Magnum ?

You are correct he has been working on one and the M200G will be the first of his models to be mass produced... The M400 will follow and compete with the above air vehicle... There are other companies working on air/ground combo vehicles... Moller has been working on these but as the car was invented before roads were paved; this too was ahead of it's time... The infastructure for this needs to be established first and that is what SATS is all about...

OLooker SATS will eventually be the network that will fly these things on their own with help from all the small air traffic control centers that are going to pop up soon... As one of the Moller guys told me when I called recently.."Sometime in the near future you'll be able to put grandpa in the skycar and it will take him to his destination on it's own"... My response was "By that time I'll be that grandpa you are talking about so hurry it up"...

Moller's is a VTOL meanning it doesn't need much space to take off... The above aircraft is more like a really small plane and need something like 500 meters to take off... I imagine each will have it's own use.. I also imagine that all the small country like airports will bloom and develope acting as hubs for these small flying aircraft... There is a SH*T LOAD of small airports around the US but not sure about the rest of the world...

I'd say that the chances of a plane that turns into a car costing $148,000 has a probability close to 0.

I'll believe that Moller is capable of producing a mass-market flying car when I see one.

if you look at old Popular Mechanics and Popular Science magazines from the 50's and 60's , we should of been flying in cars in the 80's or 90's, or at least had some really funky futuristic cars. i don't see it happening in my lifetime. does anyone ever remember seeing some concept they had for making all the interstates and major roads have some kind of magnetic propulsion system. basically everyone would manually drive their cars just on rural and neighborhood roads, but would slide into a track like monorail for commuting or traveling, and the on-board computer would link up and take over and once you got to your point ,your car would be released from the magnets and you would drive it the rest of the way to your destination.

Do you guys think they are putting all this time (12 years) developing SATS (small aircraft transportation system) to just look at it..?

We are not just talking about companies trying to make a buck we are talking about NASA, The FAA, and The Department of Transportation that is developing this...

AGAIN!! with all the regulations in this age you can't just make an aircraft and fly it around without the FAA certifying it... Moller's car is more or less ready to fly but the FAA won't test it for certification until next year... You go on THEIR schedule NOT YOURS!!! In my opinion they are delaying things until they get the infastrcture built...

By the way Louisville those sensors are being put into newly built roads and a good part of California has them... By 2025 driving will be automated...

I doubt it will ever get approved for the road. Have to take it to a track or private propery to even drive it.

COME ON KARREEM ...DAMN!! The people who approve such things are the ones that are working on it or trying to develope it... FAA, DOT, FCC, yada yada yada...

That would be like you putting years and millions of dollars into something you KNOW Bill won't approve... You work together...after all these years and millions of dollars you would think he would tell you... Think about it Kurt Rambis...
