Close-shave without scratching face?

I can't seem to find out how to shave with a hand razor to skin level more often than once every few days without leaving small cuts or rashes in certain areas. There must be tricks to it?

Always shower first before shaving. The steam from the shower is the key in hydrating your face for shaving.
Gillette makes a mach3 razor for men, fuk it, throw it away. Get the Venus womens razor. It is way better than the mach. Shave every day. If you let it go 2-3 days or more your face will break out when you shave, I dont care what you use, especially if you have sensitive skin. To recap.

The most important part has been left out.

After lathering, WAIT a few minutes before shaving. Like three minutes. Trust me on this...

And Mach 3 is great. Don't use inferior blades.

its ok, but the womens version is worlds better, trust me. I used it about 3 years ago because I was ready to shave & realized I was out of razors, so I used my GF's. She had used it 2 or 3 times & it still was the closest shave I had ever had. I started using them & wouldn't use anything else. They are a little pricey, but if you shave everyday one will last you a week.

I have a very coarse beard, so if I go 2-3 days I have to use 2 regular bic or gillette razors when I do shave.

The real trick is getting your face accustomed to a certain type razor. Alot of people will try to use an electric and say its not worth a shit. Well, if you're face is trained to a blade for 10 years then you try to use an electric, you're wasting time. Someone like Bobby who hasnt shaved yet could start using an electric & it would give him a close ass shave forever

I've been using the new Shick Hydro, it's pretty sweet. No cuts, nice and smooth. Like it better than the Fusion, Mach 3 and the Quattro.

I did a thread title search for both "shave" and "shaving" and only two other [skin shaving] threads came up since '10, neither of which directly asked for shaving advice :-p I'll look into getting a women's razor, shower mirror, after-shave product and maybe one of those brush things the guy was using in the video.

I checked and found that I've been using Mach 3. I actually tore up my face with it when I started using it. I think the shaving cream had a fair part to do with it, as most of the problem went away when I changed. I don't like changing to a new blade in general, unless I've let the facial hair grow a bit, because I have to readjust to pressing more lightly or tear up my face.

What I'm doing after going through this thread is running warm/hot water over my face longer beforehand and re-lubricating my face more often during a session, which is working out noticeably better. Before, I'd apply cream, shave with the grain, apply more cream, shave against the grain, and that'd be it. I would go over trouble spots more w/out adding more cream. Now I re-lubricate my whole face at least twice and then keep applying it, usually the same cream the whole time that I just hold with the same hand holding the shaver, to the trouble spots repeatedly.

I'll most likely look into an anti-fog mirror so I could shave in the shower eventually. Thanks to those who helped.

That's my method to, about every 2-3 days, and on the porch ( using the glass in the door as a mirror), so nothing to clean up. I will use a Bic and cream if going to a Funeral-wedding ( same thing). That same Wahl trimmer (with no guards) is also used to cut hair as needed, also outside.

Start by using shaving cream instead of applying razor directly to stubble.
