GAME 1
The Mets have really strUggled on the road going 16-38 in their last 54 road games. In fact New York hasn't won a road series since their last visit to Sun-Life Stadium, Last season (Sept 25-27). Johan Santana will get the call for the Mets. Santana has been a great pitcher at Citi Feild going 4-0 with a 2.14era in 5 home home starts, But it has been painful for him on the road, going 0-1 with an 8.44 era, However, he has only pitched on the road twice thus far. The first time was in St Louis where he threw a 4 hit 7 inning shut-out game and then the Philadelphia incident well the city of brotherly love shelled him for 10 earned run off 8 hits in less than 4 innings. Santan has already faced the Fish on opening day pitching 6 innings and gave up 1 run on 4 hits. Lifetime he is 6-1 with a 1.66 era against Florida in with New York winnig 5 of is 7 starts (against the fish).
Josh Johnson has had a great year thus far especially at home in Sun-Life Stadium going a perfect 3-0 with a 2.42 era. Overall Johnson is 3-1 with a 3.35 era, But th Marlins are only 4-3 with Johnson on the hill. All three loses have came on the road for Johnson. Florida is 2-1 behind Johnson as he holds a 2-0 record in his last 3 starts. Johnson as Santana does, has a great record against the Mets going 7-1 Lifetime with a 2.69 era in 10 starts against New York. Johnson, until opening day was 7-0 against the Mets. But the got him for 4 runs off 5 hits in just 5 innings and walked 4 batters. Both bullpens have struggled in save situations. New York has a 2-5 record with 3 out of 5 blown save opportunities but has an era of just 2.67. Florida has struggles well in the pen blowing 2 of 4 save opportunities and hs an era of over 4.00. I'm backing Santana here he can go deeper ito the game tha Johnson and has only given up more than 2 runs once in his 8 starts against Florida, and the one game where he gave up more than 2 runs he had given up 3. K-Rod will be able to close this one out.
NEW YORK METS +120
GAME 2
It has been ownership when these two teams get together as Washington is a terrible 3-11 in their last 14 games in Colorado and 8-24 overall in their last 32 meetings. last season the Rockies swept the Nationals in both series. But tis year it has been a horse of a different color for Washington as they split te first series this season 2-2 against the Rockies back in April. John Lannan will get the call for the Nats. The left-hander has not pitched as well as his team has played. His last 3 starts was less than average giving up 6 earned runs in 5 innings as the Nats lost 3-9 to Florida. Oerall he is 1-2 with a 6.34 era and a WHIP of almost 2. The Natonals have dropped 2 of his last 3 starts and 2 of his last 3 road starts. The Rockies shelled him last year in Washington for 8 earned runs in 4 innings, But dispite the no decision, Lannan did desent the last time he was at Coors Feild back in 08. He pitched 7 innings giving up 2 erned runs of 5 hits in 7 innings.
Jhoulys Chacin will be the opposing pitcher for the Rockies. The 22 year old will get the start at Coors Feild. Overall he has been very impressive in his first 2 games this season going 2-0 with a flat 0.00 era and a WHIP of .78. But he has not pitched a complete game in Colorado yet. He pitched one inning of relief this season at Coors Feild where he struck out 2. He did go as the starter last season at Coors Feild against the Bucs lasting only 2.2 innings giving up 4 earned runs and walked 6 batters in 27 pitches. The ball goes crazy at Coors Feild. I will back an experienced pitcher at Coors Feild with a terrible era and a losing record who has pitched well there before I lay -180 to a Triple-A kid who has pitched there twice once for relief and the other starting and not getting out of the 2 inning. Anyon hwo doesn't see value in this is crazy. don't forget the NAts are doing well posting an 8-7 road record thus far. I look for them to continue to be impressive. Originally I did like the Rockies with Hammel on the hill, thats why I asked who the pitcher was, because last night Hammels was the pitcher in this game. and I listed the pitchers just in case there are last minute changes in who the pitcher is.
