Bush wants 500 Million to Help Mexico Fight Drugs
Bush is going to seek 500 mil to "help" Mexico fight the drug cartels that control our southern neighbor.

They money will go to buy helicopters for Mexico, inspection equipment, training for Meixco's police and military, etc.

So Meixco is going to get half a bil of US taxpayers money.
I guarantee that just about all if it will go into the pockets of the criminals who own that country.

And it will not make a single dent in the power of the drug lords, who hold all the power cards down there.

The curent ruling party (knows as PAN) started out as a conservative Catholic party. Now, it's a spread-legged handmaiden of the drug lords. Right up t o the presidency.

The solution to the Mexican problem? To train all the illegals in this country - hard working folks for the most part, who had to bail on a scum-run but very mineral-rich land to find work - in basic military tactics. Then send them back across the border with guns and explosves, and a goodly length of hanging rope, to bring a true revolution to that sufferirng land.

A Mexican friend of mine told me that Mexico desperatlely needs an Eliot Ness, an "Untouchable," to take charge of the anti-drug effort. But the first arrest such a person would have to make is at Los Pinos (the Mexican White House).

I totlally support the efforts of the "socialist" PRD in Mexico. They will drop the disastrous NAFTA agreement (bad for the ordinary people of both countries) and hopefully war with the shadow govt of the druglords. And they may cut the illegal traffic of their people into this country, as that is a matter of shame to many of them.

    Worth a try.

Conversely a lot of American friends of mine think exactly the same thing but instead at the White House in DC.

You're forgetting, of course, that I'm sure that God, in one of his numerous conversations with our president directed him to do this.

I've been advised by a friend of mine who carried the swingin' hippie sixties into the new century that this is impossible: God, he states categorically, is a dedicated pothead. He is said to need the relaxation from overlooking the never-ending troubles of a burdensome planet.

Who are we going to help next? Since when do we need to be involved in everything anyway, it would be one thing if this guy was actually cunning and netted us major profits. It seems like all he does is get us into debt and place our soldiers in harms way.

absolutely do not support giving mexico money

I absolutely do not support giving mexico money.

Mexico is actually not a poor country. Their per capita income, puts them in the middle of all countries of the world. The problem in Mexico is the wealth is distributed so unequally, the majority of the population lives in poverty while a select few are multi-millionares and billionares.

I may support giving humanitarian aid to mexicans who can not afford shoes, but giving it to the government, no way.

I support Nafta, and free trade with any country. I should not have to pay $100 for a pair of jeans, because they have to be made in the U.S., or this is the price after a tarrif has ben added. Anything that raises our standard of living by making things cheaper is a plus to the economy. It raises my standard of living because I can afford to buy more if the jeans only have to cost $20, because they are made in Mexico. This does not take away jobs. If I only have to pay $20 for the jeans, then I have $80 extra dollars to spend on the movies and restaurants, creating additional jobs at the movies and restaurants. We could have an economy like the former Soviet Union that guaranteed a job to everyone. Obviously, the free enterprise system with free trade works better.

              Absolutely not. See reasons above.

Clearly, the US govt. would be putting over 75% of it into the pockets of Mexican officials and the drug lords themselves.

I don't support 'giving' money to any other country right now. When the Mexican government decides to come to the party and show some responsibility of their own instead of just standing there with one hand out for money and the other hand behind their back flipping us off, then we can help out some. I'll be glad to share some intelligence with them on the issue and even participate in some joint ventures to stem the tide of BOTH illegal drugs and illegal aliens.

But put me down for a big fat NO as far as just handing over half a billion in cash and materiels.

The problem with this is that Mexico's problems becomes our problems. If you don't help take care of the situation over there more drugs will end up over the border. Do you think Mexico really cares about drugs in their country? The only one who gets hurt by the problem is us. I know you can't stop the whole drug problem, but maybe you can fight it a little.

There are some who care about it, but generally speaking, they don't give a rat's rump about how drugs pass from their country into ours. And until they do show they care about how THEIR problem becomes OUR problem, I'm against stuffing THEIR corrupt pockets with OUR money.
