This is my second day with Direct Tv and as of now I love it. I have more channels for half the price. I also have CBS College and the Big12 network. I love it!

... new satellite almost in place too that will soon deliver an extra 20-30+ High Def channels which will start rolling out the end of May ... ESPNU, WGN, Travel Channel, GOLTV, Fox Soccer should all be in High Def sooner rather than later.

I have DirecTV and Dishnetwork. Your still going to have to buy College Gameplan to get all the Big12 games. They say it's Big12 network but your not going to get all the games.
I'm not aware of Directv giving free NFL Sunday ticket. There raising the price of it this year to $315 as well. I usually buy Sunday ticket but this shit is getting ridiculous. I think I'm going to just go with Dishnet's Redzone which is just $5/mo extra and watch any single games I want online streams.
I use to subscribe to Bell Canada and may need to relook into it... Roger's has a "Super Sports Pak" package, where for $29.95 per month (4 month minimum) you get MLB Extra Innings, NBA League Pass, NHL Centre Ice, NFL Sunday Ticket, plus college basketball and football (as well as Canadian Junior hockey coverage). That is much cheaper than here in the states and you really only need it for 4 months anyway.

If your worried about rain fade you should step up to a 36" or higher dish. I have a 36" and very rarely get rain fade. I have an 8 foot dish that never ever got rain fade but I took it down because it's too big.
If you don't want to increase your dish, you can also try King's Rain Fade. It's like a RainX product that you spray on the dish and it stops water from accumulating on the dish and LNB. Some folks are skeptical but it works.

"Rain Fade" is a myth put out by cable companies.
It has to be a rip roaring thunder storm to effect my reception, and even then .. it lasts for maybe 5-10 minutes at a time .... when the storms get bad enough that my signal drops .. i'm normally watching the local guys via antenna to make sure there isn't a tornado around.
Over the last 5 years - i'd say that my cable signal (high speed internet) has been down at least 10 times longer each and every year than my satellite signal.
That does not include the year we had the ice-storm that took out cable/electricity for two full weeks .... I was watching satellite TV in High Def via a generator around 12 hours after the storm had hit and took out everything.

Rain fade is not a myth. I have had Directv for years, mainly because I used to do the illegal stuff. But growing up cable was not available in my town, so it was satellite or nothin'.
When it rains it's a bitch, don't let anyone tell you any different. If you don't have at least 90% signal strength it does it every time it rains hard

You have a bad hookup then ...
I can have 3 inches of snow on my dish or an inch of ice and still have a good signal.
The only time I drop signal is during an electrical storm ... I have never - not once - in the last 6 years or so ... lost signal simply because of rain... no matter how strong its been.

Then your real lucky or maybe your in a place that doesn't rain much because I've seen rain mess up a sat reception on many occasions, especially on an 18" dish. I have had an 18" hooked up next to a 36" and big 8 footer when the rains came pouring in. I've seen the 18" go out and even the 36" while the big dish kept on trucking. It's not a myth by the cable company, it's a fact. Even the military knows about signal loss in bad weather. Google is your friend.

DTV is better to watch but for gambling I need to have cable because the feed is ahead of directv significantly.

To be fair ... when i was first installed I did have them out three times in the first week to peak my dish before I got someone who knew what he was doing ... when I had Dish Network - the smaller round dish lost signal all the time .. but with Directv ... the larger High Def oval dish ... I only loose signal with electrical storm .... If you are losing signal from nothing but rain - i'd call them and get them out to re-peak your dish ... a bit of rain should NOT cause you to lose signal .... Ice - Snow - 30-40mph wind ... solid signal here ... my cable modem is down much more often and for a much longer period of time than my satellite signal ever is ...
As you say - maybe I got lucky .... I suspect the roof would have to come off my house before I drop signal with this dish I could never go back to cable ....My satellite is much more reliable and delivers a much better picture at a much better price.

Probably depends where you live as well, my cable feed in Georgia is about 5 seconds ahead of Pittsburgh cable, 10 seconds ahead of Alexandria, Va, and 15 seconds ahead of DTV in my area. And then radio is still ahead of my tv feed so dtv is slow if you want to do live betting or bet lines close to the start of the game.
