What does budget have to do with film quality? Zero. My favorite movie last year was Paranormal Activity. They made that for 11,000 DOLLARS.

It's fun to think that Soderbergh must have been laying it to Sasha, but no, I'm afraid life is not a porno film -- He discovered her by reading an article about her in Los Angeles magazine and was blown away by the way she described her attitude towards porn and what it represented to her. She's very much in charge of everything and does porn because she digs it. She was also very articulate and talked about things that most porn stars don't know a thing about, like filmmakers. This all resonated with him, so he chose her. The guy is a total pro, this was not some back-alley deal that included fukking the director.

Yes but paranormal activity made 192 million indicating a few ppl actual saw it, the gf experience made 680k, hell i didnt even know a film that was in theaters could make that little, I mean what was it only in Montana theaters or somethin, sounds more like Soderberg slummin it for a film in order to ATM a bunch of whores tryin to get a mainstream break, I mean this movie didnt even make half of 1% of what paranormal activity made, no tellin what kinda shit Sasha did to Soderberg to get the lead in this fukin blockbuster

I can't tell if everyone's kidding with the casting couch jokes in this thread. Anyway, I realize now it's kind of pointless to try and defend an experimental art film in a friggin' gambling forum.

But for the last time, this was not a movie made to make a profit!! Soderbergh's done well enough that sometimes he can make artistic little films -- almost like "tone poems", they're less about narrative and more about mood and subtle messages -- just to do it. He knows fewer people will appreciate them than will appreciate Ocean's 11, but those that "get them" will really enjoy his work.

Even though our world does revolve around the almighty dollar, sometimes the greatest musicians, artists, filmmakers, etc. actually just make art for art's sake. Do you really think the best-selling musicians and bands are the best ones? For real? So The Black Eyed Peas are the most talented, most original band because their sh-t sold a zillion copies? Yeah, right.
