    Bookmaking question-money lines
Quick question: Why do books hold off on putting ML's out all at once. Was looking at BetJamaica this morning. They always put the ML's out late.....but the Pat's/Miami still isn't set. I've noticed they do this with all the big fav's. Why do they do it?

Do ML's like that get pounded by the public?

They have 3 choices, none platable:

    1. Offer a fair line and risk huge exposure if the bettors jump on the dolphins.

    2. Offer a biased money line and lose ev if the sharps jump on the pats.

    3. Offer a moneyline with a huge vig and embarress the site.

The ML allows players to get more down on a team. The bigger the spread the more that can be riding on the ML. $550 on a soft underdog spread pays $500 where $550 risked on a +1000 dog puts them at $5500 early on. It really shouldn't matter but with not a lot of volume coming in early it is hard for books to work with MLs when the odds can change dramatically.
