Which Annoucer on MNF Just Said He Bets Offshore "All the Time?"
A question was asked by one of the Monday Night Football announcers - of his ex-NFL player sidekicks I think, I was half watching, half-reading, a post on this forum.

One of the guys in the announcer booth said: "I bet offshore all the time." Anyone know who that was?

Yeah, it was Tony Kornheiser (Spelling?).....Anyway, Tony K spoke up, and then the others just pretty much changed the topic.

        Was it Kimmel or Kornheiser?

Sounds more like something Kimmel would say.

It also appeared to me that Kornheiser had a bit of a smug look on his face after this admission, kinda along the lines of "Yeah, that's what I just said, so who the **** is gonna do somethin' about it?"

Then again, I don't as a general rule study Kornheiser's mug, so maybe it was just his normal look.

Maybe the DOJ is about to breach the MNF booth with a Special Ops extraction team and drag him out.....

For real though, that is a trip. I'm glad he said it.

This morning a guy on ESPN's "the Herd", his sidekick, admitted today to hitting a nice parlay this past weekend.....and how it really puts a smile on his face come Monday.

I wonder if anyone famous has made it to the forums, or even posts under the radar.

Reminds me of the classic "Odd Couple" episode where Oscar is in the booth with Howard Cosell.

Oscar: "That was a nice pass against a terrific Bengals defense."

Cosell: "How do you know it's a great defense?"

Oscar: "They play a great 7-man zone."

Cosell: "Who told you about it?"

Oscar: "I know all about zones, why do think I bet $100 and laid 7 points on the Bengals!" I can't believe I just said that."

Admitting gambling is the worst thing you can do. For some reason its better if your an alcoholic or drug addict.

I know Kimmel has a whole bunch of his buddies over every NFL Sunday to watch the games while he works the grill. I wouldn't be surprised to see him gambling offshore but I can't see Kornheiser doing it. I'm pretty sure all ESPN employees are barred from gambling.

I very much doubt this is true, I have several friends who work for ESPN and I've helped set quite a few of them up offshore - including one on air commentator. If this is true then they do nothing at all to enforce or hide it as discusing bets in the office is a very common occurance

i mean seriously, outside of people in the NY or ATL area....who would watch that game if they didn't have money on it???? The NFL knows gambling is good for thier game b/c gambling attracts interest which in turn means viewership which in turns means big television contracts which means high advertising dollars.

I am pretty sure if you ask CBS, FOX, or ESPN whether they would bar any gambling on NFL games and you would get a resounding NO. They know what is good for them....

Gambling is just one those things you don't talk about.....certainly not on air. It is much more implicit.

And yes it is obvious Tony Kornheiser (among others) bets on games. You can tell b/c he goes through massive mood swings on air. Tell tale sign of a degenerate gambler is the volatility of their mood. When he is winning or good things happening during the game....it's all jokes and laughter. When things are going bad he stays silent and cuts down on the jokes and when he does speak it is to criticize the play calling or defense of the team he bet on.
