Western Union or Moneygram from Canada
Has anyone either sent or received money in Canada from books using western union. There are several books I'd like to fund but my CC won't work with them they don't take moneybookers so I'm looking for a way to fund. I see people from the states using ** a lot but when I went on line to sent to say costa rica it says canadian dollars or local currency. So I can't preselect US$. If anyone in Canada has used this method I"d like to know how well it works.

    Thanks

You can bring cash to any Canadian ** office and send it that way. You will get screwed on the exchange rate 4 or 5 points, but most books will reimburse the fees for sending.

Exchange rate is a killer. I wont use ** and Moneygram.

Books will give you bullshit about coverng all fees, they will not cover what you lose on the exchange rate.

Remember you lose twice once when depositing once when withdrawing.

I suspect a lot of people who use these options arent aware of how much they lose

Only when it is the only option available. As a last resort basically.

** takes a nice little cut on exchanging cash from USD to CDN.

Does your book accept Instadebit? It's only for Canadian banks, like e-check and ACH.

Thanks everyone. I went to a ** office and they will NOT send US$ to costa rica. Only CND or coronas (sp) which is the local currency. I'm not sure what a book would do with the CND$ for a US$ account.

I have used both ** and Moneygram from Canada many, many times. Often it's the only way.

As for currency, there are some tricks with different books. Like BetAtlas has been known to give a Costa Rica receiver for ** - and they get very confused (even belligerent) if you don't send U.S. dollars - yet, as has been pointed out, ** won't send U.S. dollars to CR.

But try to explain that to some of the clerks there.

                  There are ways around it.

Don't hesitate to drop me a PM if ever want to discuss specifics of stuff like this 20Four7. I missed your thread here when it was originally posted but I do check PM's every couple of days.
