Make a prototype, obtain a patent. Sell that patent to someone already in the space. Gotta make a prototype though.

Get a meeting with a company exec's that you could sell the idea too.

You would be surprised how little the inventor actually puts into his pocket. Even if the invention is big the inventor rarely has the infrastructure, know-how, and capital to squeeze every last cent out of his good idea.

Get the prototype done and sell it for a profit, but don't hang on to it for to long or you will get no money or go broke trying to make it work.
