not even 20 years ago, pitch counts were basically never heard of, now they are paying these guys so much that the magic number of 100 means a guy is done, its idiotic

Brock it's not idiotic. It's so these guys arm's don't fall off.
Teams pay millions of dollars for even sub par/mediocre pitchers.. not for them to be injured half of their contract.

Up to 130 pitches everything should be normal. But the Mets bullpen is too good so I don't see it as an issue if he leaves early.

just read this
"There's no record of actual pitch counts in 1974, but Nolan Ryan on June 14 faced 58 Red Sox hitters, striking out 19 and walking 10 in 13 innings. For his career, he averaged four pitches per batter. That night, his figure likely was higher, but it still conservatively puts him at 232 pitches."
wow.

Pitch counts have ruined pitching. I was watching the Mets game the other day and they said Niese was gassed in the middle of the 6th. Kinda pathetic.

Look back at when the GREAT ones pitched...Gibson, Marichal, Drysdale, Ryan...COMPLETE GAME pitchers...no arm problems, that tell you anything??

And those guys didn't have the benefit of specialized nutrition and training. The pitchers of today are supposed to be in better physical shape than those of the past and yet they're gassed at 100 pitches.
