No, really... what are Sonics fans thinking right now? Do we have any on here?

I mean as a Seattle resident and/or diehard Sonics fan, do you still follow your team and are you jacked up about how well they're playing right now? Or did you burn your old jersey when they moved to OKC and now hate them with a passion? I'm curious!

Love ya Brock but that is a croc of shit. Sonics were beloved by the city. Yes after years and years of losing attendance was down slightly but just even a glimmer of what Durant is doing now the whole place would be packed every home game.

As for the OP's question we are still pissed as hell, but somehow a small light in the black hole is the amazing atmosphere and fans in OK city. It's just too bad it had to be our team. The ownership group planned that move a few years in advance and had no intention of every staying in Seattle. Sad that the NBA approved of it but what's done is done.

It does not even seem like the same team, Nick Collison is the only guy who played for the Sonics.

Kevin Durant rookie year was with the Sonics. Its his third year in the NBA, and 2nd in OKC.

It's a pity but Seattle really wasn't much of a basketball town, so I'm happy that okc has a good team to root for

They are thinking "Fuk U Howard Shultz". He is the owner of Starbucks who sold the Sonics, for no God Damn reason. He could afford a professional team in every major US sport, and a Premier League Soccer team simultaneously without a dent in his wallet. He is just another guy who became rich, and decided to "buy a toy". Well he grew old with the toy, and decided to sell the team to the highest bidder. Also they are screaming "F U David Stern," for allowing Shultz to sell the team to people who would move the team out of Seattle.

every time i see a starbucks i think of how sonics fans got screwed.
we have the same kind of threats here in milwaukee from time to time that the bucks could potentially move without a new arena (bradley center is on the older side but is just fine).

i feel bad for everyone there, that city is much larger and has much more disposable income than oklahoma city, makes no sense.

on a side note i also feel bad for portland fans - first they take sam bowie over jordan, then they take greg oden over durant! both of those were obvious dumb moves - how could oden stay healthy when he looked 50 years old coming out of college??

I can relate in a way. I was a HUGE,passionate, Big Red fan. Went to 75% of the home games every year (tickets free thru lawyer uncle). Then they moved to Arizona. Once they moved I said F U Bidwell. I remember a few years after that the NFL screwed us and didnt give us a expansion team. I cried. Then the Rams moved here and the rest is history. Sort of sucks though now because since they play in a dome and the climate is controlled, my Uncle now goes to all the games and I get no tickets. He wouldnt go before because its cold in the winter and Busch Stadium was a outdoor stadium.

He would always go like the first 2-3 home games when the weather would still be nice in the fall but thats it.

Good article, Houlihans, thanks. Yeah, I feel awful for every city that loses a team -- it's so unfair.

We thank our lucky stars every day for Bob Kraft here in Boston. The previous owner was going to move the team to St. Louis (sorry Richie) in 1994 until Kraft stepped and bought the team away from him!

i'm starting to worry that my vikings will pack up in a couple years. its been around a decade now that theyve been trying to get a new stadium deal done, their lease in the dome runs out after 2011 and they said they dont want to be there past 2011 unless they have a deal done, and this owner is from new jersey and i really think he could care less about MN if he can get them out playing in los angeles

I know it makes no monetary sense (and money is what everything is all about), but I feel like there should be a RULE, some kind of Pro Sports Constitution, that says that no team that has been in a community for X number of years (like maybe 20) should ever be allowed to move! It just isn't right!

sorry, but i disagree...every city supports a team when its winning in the playoffs - Seattle had some of the most passionate fans in the league and the home court advantage was unreal in the days of Kemp and Payton...the wave was born in Seattle, and Husky stadium is always voted among the toughest places for an opponent to play...the fans can be of the 'fairweather' variety, but with the ticket prices and other entertainment options in this city its understandable....not much to do in Oklahoma in winter and the novelty of having a pro team to root for is still in effect - give it a few years before you judge it....a lot of hearts were broken here, i can promise you that...was horrible timing to hold a city hostage over a stadium, as Seattle had just spent almost a Billion on stadiums for the Seahawks and Mariners....oh well, life goes on - to answer the OP's question, I'm not a fan of the Plunder but have to admit their future looks bright

Man hahah I just read some idiotic posts in this thread.

"This team never got support in Seattle"

"Seattle wasn't much of a basketball town"

Lol, I guess you guys didn't watch the NBA in the 1990's, or the 80's or the 70's. The Sonics won 2 titles in Seattle. They were a lock for Pacific Division Champs in the 90's with Payton and Kemp. And you all can't forget the 95 playoff run to the Finals against Michael Jordan and the Bulls.

Do you know why there aren't many players left from the original Sonics? It's because when Clay Bennett bought the team from Howard Schultz he stripped it. He intentionally made us horrible so he could get high draft picks and also to create less fan interest- to make it easier for him to move to OKC. And worst of all, it worked. We could've had a Durant, Ray Allen, Rashard Lewis combo had Clay Bennett's weasel ass actually tried to make us contenders. David Stern was in on this scheme too. If you want to know the real story... You MUST watch the documentary at WWW.SONICSGATE.ORG

Oh and FUKKK no do people in Seattle support the Thunder. Everyone I know, including myself despises everything about them. I can't stand to see those thieves winning. That was supposed to be US. OKC is EASILY one of the worst professional sports cities in the United States. None of the players, including Durant, wanted to move to that dump.

Very well said, Payton20. I just don't have the time or energy to debate these uneducated people anymore. I'm furious, haven't had a cup of starbucks since July 2008. Schultz, Stern, and the local politicians SCREWED the city of Seattle.

The saddest part is, that when I turn on an average regular season NBA game, it is UNWATCHABLE. David Stern should be ashamed. The product is BAD.

Thanks for the input, Everyone, especially the guys from Seattle (by the way, what are you, Seattlites? Seattleans? i.e., I am a "Bostonian." Seriously, I'd like the answer to this).

So sounds pretty much like I figured: The vast majority of Sonics fans loathe the Thunder. Bitterness pretty much wins out over any kind of positive, "hey, that used to be us, yay Thunder" feeling.

I guess it's probably always like that. But does anyone know of any opposite situations? Like, people from Baltimore who stayed Colts fans? Or people from Cleveland who stayed Ravens fans? Gotta be a small minority, but maybe some out there?

For instance, in Boston there are still Giants fans from before the Patriots came along in 1960. Although wait a sec, bad example, the Giants never moved from here, they were just the closest team I think.

That is soooo false. You make yourself look like a retard by making comments like that. The reason the team wasn't generating money was because they had a shitty lease deal on the Key Arena- which became a subpar arena in the newer age of these massive arenas.

I think you must be forgetting that the Sonics were in the playoffs just 2 years earlier and every home game was sold out. They made it to the 2nd round where they took the Spurs to 6 games WITHOUT their one of their stars, Rashard Lewis.

The move from Seattle had nothing to do with the fans not supporting the team. If you read my earlier post you would've known that when Clay Bennett bought the team, he got rid of all of our good players. We traded Ray Allen, we didn't re-sign Rashard Lewis. We traded Delonte West and Wally Szcerbiak for Ira Newble?? We released Kurt Thomas and Chirs Wilcox. The team turned into a horrible joke. Obviously, with a team that's one of the worst in the NBA, they lost fan support. That would happen to any team that became that bad. It was all a mastermind plan by that heartless bastard Clay Bennett (fatass)

I love betting the NBA but have no allegiance are fandom going on. Regionally, I would pull for the Atlanta Hawks as I am about 2 1/2 hours away from Phillips Arena but have never visited a game there. I will have to say my favorite team to watch is OKC. I am sorry the Seattle people wasn't able to enjoy a team that plays with such entusiasm and energy. Since, I don't have an ax to grind with the owner I pull for the OKC to advance and do well. Again, it a shame you don't have that team in your town as I don't know a funner team to watch with so much talent and enthusiasm for the game. I don't know if OKC will advance or not. It will be tought to get one in LA, but in all my years I have never seen a team that was as sold out and selfless when it comes to just winning. Like OKC now because you may never see a team that has 2 superstars in Durant/Westbrook with no ego's or agenda's but winning. Those two guys have not been corrupted by the league and play for the passsion/competetion of the game. They play like college guys in march madness just all out and for the team. Take Durant in game 3. He was struggling mightily with his shot and couldn't make a shot. At that time most superstars would have folded and sulked and pouted about getting calls...NO, what did he do?? Go get about 20 rebounds and block every shot that was close and made the critical plays down the stretch and made Kobe very uncomfortable. That was the best game I have ever seen when a superstar shot only 8-24 from the field. Offensively he was off, but just willed his team to victory in so many other ways.
