How to get a 'marker' in Vegas
    Hey,

What is the procedure to go about getting a 10K+ marker in vegas? Can you place wagers at the sportsbook with them? I assume its just chips they give you right? Can you use them at other SB's? I don't feel like taking money out of my account. I rather borrow it from them this weekend.

    Thanks,
    mp

You fill out a credit application. The casino runs it and establishes a line of credit for you. Once you are approved you can go to the cashier sign the marker which prints in the form of a check and they give you cash or chips. You can also request the money from the pit while your at a table game. They print out the marker you sign it and they give you chips. As far as telephone wagering I'm unaware of being able to use a marker for telephone type wagering. You could however get cash and play at the sportsbook as long as you are in the casino. Just remember markers come due in 30-60 days and like JJ says its a bitch when they do.

Thanks Aces. I'll be there two weekends in a row at least. I'm in the hole about 10K and I plan to make it back with a couple of games. I know its risky to do this but I can afford to risk it.

Is there a preferred hotel/casino to get a marker from? Do they have incentives better rates depending on the casino?

          thanks,

Call ahead and see if you can fill out an application prior to going. Ask for the players club if you get a large enough marker they'll probably take care of your room and meals. They will run your Credit and may even want a credit card number for security. It may take a day or two to get approved so call ahead.

If you are going on a weekend you need to get pre qualified. They have to get a rating from your bank and will not be able to get that info on a weekend more than likely. The amount of credit you get comes from your bank rating more than a credit rating.

Any idea what a bank rating is and how that is calculated? My credit score is good but i've never heard of a bank rating. Thanks for the info guys. I'll call ahead and see if they can approve me tomorrow.

Bank Rating is based on average daily balance.

I would REALLY advise against this. Using markers is dangerous.

Just as a note: When you take chips to the cage to "cash" in they will ask you if you have any outstanding markers. It means the money may not be as liquid as you think. If they catch you lying and taking the money down the road you will be rated as a very bad risk in future. Just something to think about.

Not sure about Vegas but in Biloxi which is where I play your markers are held by the casino for 30 to 60 days. At the end of 30 to 60 days the marker is presented to your bank for payment it works just like a check advance with no interest. They aren't as stringent about taking the cash elsewhere but the casinos all have software which tells them where you have outstanding markers. I had a problem with a casino that claimed I had an outstanding marker which i proved had been paid but somehow during that time my marker ability dried up at all the other casinos. I got it straightened out and have no problems today but if Vegas works the same as Biloxi the casinos know where you have open markers and how much you owe on them.

Only once was I ever asked if I had open markers. I never paid any off when at a casino. No matter how much I won I took it all with me and let the money work. Never had any processed in less than a month and some took 3 months to clear. Rule of thumb in a casino, whenever leaving a table go cash your chips each time and always buy in at the table with cash or markers. Never take chips to table to play. The more they keep seeing you buy in the better the client you are. Yes they track you but near as well as you can fool them.

Plus the more times you buy in the better your ratings will be which = better comps.

They are all tied together. Las Vegas , Biloxi, New Orleans , and I am sure Atlantic City.

The Grand and Hard Rock. I love 21 + 3 at the Grand I'm a junkie when it comes to that game.

I use to play at he Grand all the time. Lived in Pensacola for 5 years and went there a lot, playing mostly craps. Moved there for 3 years and played poker mainly. Was a great town to live in till Katrina hit.

Yea the Grand is One floor now with very limited table action. If you haven't been to the Hard Rock you need to check it out. The Dealers can High 5 you give you hugs etc.. Its a fun Casino. As far as Poker Rooms the IP probably has the best one now. As far as Craps the Beau Rivage has the most tables the get a little pricey on the weekends.
