    This suspension is a joke

CINCINNATI (AP)—Cincinnati Reds pitcher Edinson Volquez(notes) has been suspended 50 games following a positive test for performance-enhancing drugs.
Major League Baseball announced the penalty Tuesday.

Volquez is recovering from surgery on his right elbow and is expecting back around midseason. He was an All-Star in 2008 when he went 17-6 for the Reds.
The 26-year-old starter was 4-2 last season.
Volquez is the first player suspended under the major league drug program since Manny Ramirez(notes) of the Los Angeles Dodgers was penalized 50 games last May.
I am not a rocket scientist but if the guy is injured and is expected back in midseason meaning the season is 80 games on or more at that point what is the purpose of suspending him 50 games now?

This is like suspending your driver's license for 50 days the day after you broke both arms and put them in a cast.

Wait a second. They pay him while he is disabled to pitch?

How do I sign up for this job?

Throw 90+ MPH, have a good combination of pitches, and hit spots.

of course, all pitchers are. they don't stopped getting paid.

that's why New York hates Pavano with a passion, $40 mil to pitch about 20 games in 4 years.

Mike Hampton was a master of this. Braves payed him 20 million a year for 4 years and he only pitched 1. One time he was injured while warming up and another time he was injured at home.

Teams have insurance though. If you remember when the Bulls were trying to resign Eddy Curry, they couldn't get their insurance to cover his heart, and they didn't want to risk having to pay his full salary if he was sitting out with heart problems.

Doc took the words right of my mouth. Just hearing this fukkers name brings a little vomit to my mouth. He was a pretty damn good hitter though.
