living the dream , yes it would be impossible to throw a knuckle ball. It has to come over ,but you need to throw it almost like pushing it so there is known spin, sidearm pitchers as you know throw with tons of spin

a knuckler is thrown with the same armspeed never try to lighten up you will end up throwing high and no movement that usually means homerun . the trick for guys throwing it is to follow through pushing it a bit but your back must be bent like a fastballand Iam left handed so I finish on my right knee right handers finish on your left knee in a position where your left and right foot are sraigt across . make sure with any breaking pitch draw a straight line from your center straight towards catcher about three feet when you kick make sure the foot you land on is 2 feet or better to the center line, this creates more motion on any breaking pitchers.

I pitched in high school....and practiced to throw one in a game, which I did once and the guy drilled it to the left center-field wall. The coach game out and plainly told me..."Don't throw that fukkin meatball again"....my knuckle-ball career completed after one pitch

I can throw a pretty good knuckle ball...I'm a lefty so my old man had me pitching since way early on in little league, its obviously not close to MLB status but I can throw it fairly accurate, my nasty strikeout pitch was a splitter. You almost have to have the perfect "hand" to throw stuff like a knuckler or a good splitter, longer fingers but at the same time very strong in order to get proper grip + accuracy

I have a knuckle curve I actually throw with my knuckles...........it usually knuckled right into the wheelhouse of the hitter.

My college pitching stats were 0-1 with an ERA of around 123.33........one outing.

                  The loss was to Northwestern

Pitched in semi-pro and didn't fare much better........2 outings with an ERA around 14.43
What was your siera? Era is a useless stat. You may be better than you think.

the key with Dickey is his velocity

most people here, wouldn't be able to throw it fast enough to get the wind resistance to be high enough to make it dance with the seems.

but I played beer league softball in a modified pitch league...(throw as hard as you can, with no wind-up and 1 step off the rubber) and a guy threw an under hand knuckler that drove batter's nuts, worked as a change up, didn't really dance... but it didn't move at all hardly, so no natural tailing action that a spinning ball would have. So it fooled the batter's eyes...

yea, not that hard.... easier if you have big fingers. but concept is using your knuckles shortens your fingers in theory and releases the ball "straight" with no rotation. With some practice an average baseball player can easily throw one

I messed around with a knuckle curve in high school. Wasn't that great so abandoned it.

you get the best results throwing with your first two fingers, with your fingernails or fingertips dug into the ball. Not really best to use your knuckles

Regular knuckleball--no, hard as hell to throw
Threw a knuckle curve in high school......Learned how to throw/hold it from a Mike Mussina segment

Took a while to master but I finally got it to work pretty well

I threw a 2 seam, 4 seam, knucklecurve, circle change, sinker, curve, threw sidearm as well sometimes

Pretty much a junk ball pitcher with decent velocity......Had my moments but better everyday player

Now my fukkin right shoulder is a little messed up from pitching all those years.....don't have as much flexibility in the rotator cuff area compared to my left arm

how did you throw a sinker?

in high school I threw 2 seamer, sometimes 4 seamer, and a pseudo cutter/slider.....

my coach wouldn't let me throw off speed stuff, unless we learned control of our fastball and could hit corners.

Mine was more of a 12-6 overhand curve......pretty much grip similar to your curve and snap down from over the shoulder......

Was probably my best pitch when it was on.....froze batters if I threw it high up and would drop down into the zone, or got them chasing when it would die right at the plate

                                          yeah drop ball

I did a demonstration of it on sbr.tv once

never really used it though, I got a ton of sink on my two seamer, so that WAS my sinker
