All OTB's in New York to close.Horse racing is dead in the depression.
It's the biggest time of the year for horse racing and you can get a feel for how far the industry keeps plunging by going to the DRF Daily Racing Form,www.drf.com site and looking around gathering news and stats. The industry is in free fall collapse. One of the headlines yesterday was that all the New York off track betting locations could be closed after this weekend. If anyone doesn't think we aren't in a depression just being propped up by quick fix gimickry trickery, state your case.I think the government should bail out the horse racing industry with massive amounts of free money and not just slot machine licensing the tracks to steal entitlement program money from feebs and old geezers. If it's good enough to keep AIG,the banks and GM and Chrysler in business, they better keep the horse racing industry in business.NOT!!!!!Let them all die on the vine.No more selective socialism.Socialism is the greatest form of economics and politics if you are a receiver bennefactor on top of the pyramid scam.

While I agree that the industry is sputtering (especially NYRA) I can assure you that the OTB's will not close. Year in and year out, here in NYC, there is a threat of the OTBs closing because they are operating at a loss. And year in and year out the governor steps in and raises the takeout for OTBs giving them another year of operability. This year will be no different.

The OTB basically invented the bail out. Get your head outa the sand. At least in NY they have been reworked, re-capitalized, re-classed, etc. so many times dating back to their inception.

You really think the horse racing business is as important to the US economy as the insurance business, the auto business and the entire credit facility business? Wow.

I am a huge proponent of the horse racing industry, but the solution has to come from a private industry that is a dinosaur resistant to change. This has nothing to do with the government.
