#7they are pretty much the same. TV is still years from broadcasting in 1080p, so unless you are getting a bluray player as well, you should be able to get a banging ass TV for $700 or less. so if it is mostly TV viewing go with a 720p and at least 120hz. the biggest thing after that is aspect ratio. the higher the better. the cheap ones are going to be like 10K:1. think the best one i saw was 2 million:1.
go to Best Buy and just browse for an Open Item, which will be $100 or so cheaper. there was one in my local $150 cheaper cause the remote was missing. and this next one takes balls, but shouldn't.
everywhere in the world, haggling is expected and welcome. Americans are the only people that walk in a store and pay the asking price. try to jew the best buy guy down $100 or so, worst he can do is say no. be prepared to walk away.
keep us posted.Comment -

#181. LCD over Plasma (I have both)
2. Buy online - you will get so much more for your money (no tax free shipping)
3. If you do HD DVD's you will want 1080p - if not stick with 720p
4. Higher refresh rate = smoother image when watching fast moving action - get 240hz if possible.
like this ... ?

#28actually i got one more question for you guys. best buy offers 3 different service plans... 2 year protection for $120, 4 year for $150, and a 4 year premium plan for $250.
which plan would you recommend if any? or are these service plans "scams" like car rental insurance?Comment -

I'd personally go with a Panasonic Plasma. Plasmas have better contrast, color production and are better for sports than LCDs. Plasmas don't have a refresh rate to worry about so you won't see motion blur, which is still there with a 120 refresh rate.Comment -
