Greaser I like Miz irons, I was just digging at your “I got the $” comment. Those Honma irons are really nice, I played a few rounds with them last season but they’re expensive AF. Honestly you could end up hating them.

You like your miz, stick with em.

At some point you’re going to find out there is a point of diminishing returns. You’re going to be buying a particular club and practicing a particular shot that you may only hit a few times per round, if that. The problem here is that for pro’s, this is necessary, they’ve gotta have every shot available and be able to nail it, lots of $$$ on the line if they lose a stroke or 2.

For you, and even for me (single handicap) our time is better spent on the shots you’ll encounter frequently. Its easy to spend way too much time working on some obscure flop shot when you don’t even have your mid-range iron game on point.

It’s easy enough to learn to flop and to practice it a little bit and you should, but don’t spend much time on it, your time is better spent on the shots you’ll take most often.

Good points. Practice isn't just going to beat balls out onto a pasture. Ninety percent of amateurs don't know how to practice.

Yeah this is what my Evan scholar buddy was saying re: flop shots.

I was watching a video of Mickelson teaching his flop shot and he started out by saying “this is not a high percentage shot, and I only use it if I have to.”

But I don’t even open up my stance and open my club face on bunker shots because it feels awkward— evan scholar was saying I need to learn that. But I really do hit out of bunkers well. Even when I have to go vertical.

Florida golfer, when I get my next lessons, I am gonna get the pro to give me some drills I can use to practice to form a better, more consistent swing. I am gonna email him now.

This thread really motivated me. Thanks maggies.

Not a believer much in new technology either. I still play the same sticks from college days. Don't think getting a new set would improve my score one bit.

I got new wedges a couple years back. Was referring to 3-pitch hence "set"

It depends on when your "college days" were. If you're playing clubs that are 20 years old, you're not getting the most out of your game. But there's also no reason why amateurs need to go buy new stuff every other year; that's a complete waste of money and expectations.

They are 11-12 years old. They work fine. Best iron I've ever played back when Cleveland knew how to make golf clubs.

The irons a couple of my buddies have that I mentioned a few pages back were not ping.

They are Taylormade M2’s. They both love them
