OT-- Striking GM employees want WHINE with their cheese!
I personally know a few people who work as hourly assembly line employees at GM and they are all overweight blowhard whiners that are overpaid.I'm already sick of seeing 500 overweight people with picket signs chanting on t.v.news where they say they don't want to strike but they have to.It certainly doesn't look like they work for slave wages where GM took food off their table. When told that the company produces shit cars that no one wants to buy because all the expenditures go to employee benefits and wages, the employees all say it's B.S.and a conspiracy against them.I hope the strike goes on forever and the whole company collapses. It's already just a health maintanance organization that just so happens to make cars as a sideline.

So those huge wages these people make just don't go very far when they live in high tax, high amount of social spending states. These employees vote in all the socialist democrats who confiscate a big part of their income so why don't they vote them out and that's how to get a 20% raise.

Then these employees want hardly any deductible paid on health care and they are all hypochondriacs with extended families of 2 wives,6 step children, gay domestic partners gobbling up company insurance $$$$$$$$$$$.

Then they make more money when they retire than when they are working.Look at college educated young people today how they won't get these wonderful retirement packages and won't get social-ist security and medicare because the ponzi scheme pot is drained because of who these GM employees voted into office.

The media sure takes the side of these employees making it look like they are the victims all the time.I suppose it will work the same when GM gives them all raises and they lose their jobs because everyone is buying Toyotas.

if they push hard enough, gm will close the plant. detroit will be like flint and st. louis. profitable automakers already moved down south where unions do not exist. detroit is pretty much screwed at this point...these worker might just be the catalyst that GM needs to make it happen sooner.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Ford workers who belong to the United Auto Workers are on edge after the union called a national strike against GM Monday.

"If there's anything gonna happen, it will be in the next three days," Ford worker Brad Seward said.

Local officials had confirmed that UAW negotiations with GM would serve as a blueprint for Ford's UAW contract, and a recent union vote favored a strike at local Ford plants as a last resort.

Contract talks between the United Auto Workers and General Motors are scheduled to resume Tuesday morning. But, in the meantime, local union officials said Ford employees have been racing to the phones to find out if they will strike.

Rumors started at the Kentucky Truck Plant and Louisville Assembly Plant that a workers there could strike within three days. Local 862 President Rocky Comito said the GM strike should have no effect on local Ford workers.

"The agreement with UAW and Ford is extend the contract indefinitely," Comito said. "However, if talks break down, we're going to give you a three day notice before we go out. So, people are thinking since GM went out automatically our clock started running."

Some 73,000 union members who work at about 80 U.S. Facilities for the nation's largest automaker walked out of GM plants Monday.

UAW officials said job security is the number one unresolved issue.

The striking workers want GM to promise that future cars and trucks will be built at U.S. plants, preserving union jobs.

It's the first nationwide strike against GM in 37 years. Ford, GM and Chrysler UAW workers have been without contracts for 10 days.

Unions better be thinking about the health of the company. No company...NO JOBS!!!! Unions worked hard to get there workers a bigger piece of the Pie. Well, the Pie has shrunk considerably. Right now I would say it's an empty tin with some crumbs. Is GM or Ford even showing a profit?

OOHH, and the chance anyone I know,(in the lower middle class) buying a new car is 0. Insurance and Gas prices keep this from happening, even with 0 percent financing!!!!

at least in the big cities, they're pushing for public transportation. not sure about those fly by states, i don't think they can go to their neighbor's house without a car.

I agree with every post actually.. BCrude you are right most of these workers are over weight damn but worse yet they are stupid... They will starve themselves because the UAW says to... I would tell the Union to f*ck off I need my job NOW!

If I was GM I would milk this because of my high inventory.. I wouldn't want to pay them to make more cars to add to this inventory so IMO this is a smart move by GM... They will wait for the nuse to tighten around the workers neck (savings) and the workers will break like they did with the airlines...

I said this before so forgive the repeating but it is by design to destroy all the unions and it started with the airlines and will continue with the auto and other industries until unions don't exsist...

i think UAW workers get money from the union during the strike. that is what those union dues are ment to do. those money might run out soon....maybe a month? car parts are not like bananas, they can still be used next month. i predict, either GM will close one or two plants, or the workers will go back to work in a couple of weeks with reduced pay.

Remember the movie Roger and Me that Michael Moore put out about how terrible Flint was because of GM pulling out. Here you had these people making big bucks for decades at GM and as soon as they were out of work he made it look like they had to raise rabbits because they had no money for food.If you are working at GM for years and have to raise rabbits out of necessity to survive, you are one hell of a poor money manager. You had to have gone really overboard on having a couple former wives,a bunch of troubled children,a gambling or drug habit or just one of those people that lives beyond their means by buying every toy known to mankind.

Then all the taxes over the years that GM pumped in the system that was supposed to make the city of Flint prosperous went for wasteful crony boondoggle grandiose makework projects that fizzled out.I too live in an industrial mining area run by democrats and an unbelievable amount of money is paid in taxes to local government by the mines and the democrat politicians in cahoots with the unions waste it all.Usually the politicians and union heads relatives get business grants and loans to start far fetched long shot odds businesses that go broke. It's like something right out of the Sapranos and the idiot residents don't care that it goes on or are too afraid to speak out. When one party runs the system in an area it's like the crooked western sheriff that calls the shots with his cronie thugs and there are no checks and balances. At least in Alaska the oil revenue procedes get divided among the state residents in the form of a check being given to them every year.

Fcuk'em! I couldn't care less how long the strike lasts. UAW members still do better than most Americans. It's not like there is a shortage of GM products in the marketplace. Hopefully, they strike long enough to get rid of this excess inventory. I just hope GM doesn't give in like they have in the past. GM is barely holding on and their employees are only thinking about their own situation.

                        Sounds like welfare, socialism? communism?
Alaska - fukking commies! See what being so geographically close to Russia does?

Obviously I jest, the US has serious problems on the horizon, perhaps they should think about solving their own problems instead of trying to bring "democracy" to other nations.

the check alaska gives out is like paying the local residents restitution for raping their land of natural resource. if some company starts digging holes in your backyard and making tons of noise and pollute the air in the process. do you think you and your neighbors should get a check from the company every year? it is far from communism.

Yes, my bad, that sounds like capitalism at its finest.

I'm well aware of pollution, here in Ontario we get smog days and poor air quality days thanks to our neighbors to the south, over 80% of the pollution here is due to pollution from industry in the OHIO valley. We are not exempt and cause pollution as well, my point is that capitalism trumps everything, regardless of cost to humans and our environment.

What good will money be if there is nothing left to buy or if life is made miserable by all the health issues related to this pollution?

you gotta shit somewhere. pretty much nowdays, the developed countries are shifting pollution heavy production to third world countries. the states even ship their garabage and used computer parts overseas for processing. it is pretty impossible to cut down on the pollution until the whole world is aware of the envirnomental damage. i think this problem will not go way until it is more profitable for industries to clean up their production...i think once that day arrive, the world will be a shitty place to live in.

the good thing is that there are groups that are aware of this problem and trying to do something about it, but their effort does not have a significant impact on the businiess practice yet. hopefully they'll figure something out in the next couple of decades, maybe send the trash to outer space? i heard they're planning to build and elevator to space...maybe they can use that as a waste ladder one day.
