Any legal gun owners out here?
Since most of aren't pulling pieces out at roadside fruit sellers A.K.A jjgold in the foothills of Costa Rica.....was wondering how many people are gun owners/permit holders. Whether it is hunting or home protection, whats your favorite gun.

I primarily like large calibre hanguns for home defense. The .380 of any make is good for the car or travel.

Buddy of mine has some private land where we practice....usually shoot watermelons, propane tanks....stuff like that. The propane tanks don't blow up when shot either.....you would think they would. But they don't.

Not much into hunting, never really had that stuff in urban northeast U.S.

That thing must pick up a ton of fingerprints. Had a stainless once, tough to keep the finish clean, but very sexy when polished.

I have a glock that I bought cheap from a cop who had to change to a different gun for some reason (I figured I could sell it for a little more then I paid for it I needed cash sometime real bad)... I had it for like 3 years and shot the damn thing once... I have in a lock box somewhere and not even sure where the key is to it...

I like the Bren, 500 rounds a minute, .303 caliber, 100 round magazine. What I like most is it is REALLY loud, so if your in a drug deal that is turning south, you just fire off a few dozen rounds with the Bren and the crack dealers quickly come around to your way of thinking.

A bit expensive, but if you really need to shoot up a place and scare the living shit out of some drug dealers, my money is on the Bren.

Just a couple of pistols, an old snub .38, a fun little toy, and a Ruger Redhawk double action .44 that is not a toy. Several rifles and shotguns, my favorite two being a Winchester Model 70 30.06 and my 'snake gun,' a Savage .22 Mag/410 Over/Under that is nothing short of a gas to go plinking with.

I own a multitude of weapons from, handguns, assualt weapons, and shotguns. Im a collector and have some long guns going back to the 1800s.Actually have my great grandfathers 12guage and .410 he bought in the 1800s, also have the original receipt for $ $9.00 that he paid for them from Sears in 1890.

Ive had a concealed weapons permits for almost 20 years, and am legal to carry in over 30 states,

My primary home defence weapon is a Vietnam war 18.5" 9 round Ithaca model 37 shotgun. I use police tactical loads in it to limit indoor wall penetration.

I carry a Kimber 11 Ultra carry in .45acp as my daily carry weapon. Also own,S&W,Kahr,Kel-tec, Glock, and Colt pistols. Several AR-15, and AKs. Not to mention two 800lb safes for all my toys to fit it.

Since we are on the topic, you gun guys should go to Knob Creek this Oct for the bi-annual machine gun shoot.Quad 50s, GE mini guns, AKs, ARs, etc all for rent to the public on the ranges there.

Check out these pictures from spring of 07.
This set was taken during the Spring 2007 Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot. I wasn't able to stay for the night shoot on Saturday, but I'm hoping to get back for the Fall shoot. I would like to get a media pass for the Fall shoot, so if anyone needs a freelance photographer for their publication, please let me know.

JBC, if you want those propane tanks to go boom, you must use steel core rounds. Copper or lead rounds wont create the spark needed. Check you state laws, steel cored rounds may be considered armour piercing rounds and may be illegal to own depending on where you live.

                        Have fun, later.

i guess your talking about the knob creek outside louisville off hwy 44 in western bullitt county that backs up to fort knox's land, me and friends have been there a few times, i like when they have the night-time shoot-off, where everyone fires into the hillside with tracer rounds, thats cool, plus i like that its any kind of gun there, i've seen people fire them old gatlin guns from like cival war time, mounted on a wagon-like turret, and they got a big hand crank they turn while someone feeds rounds into the gun, i also like watching the people with the flamethrowers. good stuff at that show.

I had a gun period when I was younger, but I only own one gun now that I have stored with my father. I think in most cases (at least for me) the risk of having a gun in the house out weigh the potential benefits. If I lived in a high crime area I might feel different. In general I think if you are going to have a gun in the house you should get serious training on its use in home defense situations.

The best firearm for concealed carry is something no bigger than a six-shot .25 automatic. Or even a two round Derringer.

Why? Because on the street you won't be shooting at anyone or anything unless they're close enough to do you damage. That's realism, not macho fantasy.

Once, years ago, while working as an insurance salesman, I had to cross, at night, a large lot on a dark street to get to the house where I think I had my appointment.

Midway across this lot two dogs - one medium-size and one small - came after me. Not just barking, but snarling and lunging.

The bigger one was leaving his feet to get at my face or throat, When he did that his smaller friend would dash in to try to bite my lower legs.

All I had to protect myself was my briefcase, which I would put up in front of me whenever the bigger one took a fangs-bared lunge. He hit his face a few times on it but just kept a-comin'.

The little one grabbed pants-legs a few times, but never broke skin. He'd dash away for a few seconds when I kicked at him.

All the while I was walking slowly backward, back to the street where I'd parked my car. It took me about 10 minutes to get there, and the dogs broke off their attack when I was within about 20 yards of the sidewalk.

Sure, they were just exercising their territorial imperative. (And I think may have been deliberately let out of the house by the person I had an appointment with.) But if I had stumbled, or if there had been 3 or 4 animals instead of just 2, I could have been killed, or at least mauled and needing rabies shots.

I sometimes think of that night, and think if I had a small caliber handgun in my briefcase, or in my pocket, even a Derriger, I could have shot the more aggresive dog in mid-lunge.

And would have done so in a heartbeat, even tho I'm a dog-lover (both the real thing and also in sports, LOL).

You don't need a cannon on the street. Unless you're dealing drugs and are at war with a rival gang.

jj, Ive been there several times before.Ive surfed at the green iguana surf camp near Playa Dominical a few times on the Pacific side. The waves there are so perfect, youd swear they were made from a wave pool. Its a very peacefull experience there.

As far as visiting you there, now that seems like an interesting proposition. Can you handle the weapons side of things down there? Are you in need of a body guard service?

Id fly into Panama, then make my way north to CR by land, its always safer to have your travel arrangements in a different country than the one you are operating in.

Guy I went running today in the foothills with the rebels in CR, I only had a 44 caliber, I fired a few times but mainly was in the trench. I had no clue who we were fighting, t was over land I think. I think you would love it and have the arsenal to be competitive.
