Its an a accomplishment no doubt and they are doing on the road and can build on next year. I am riding them every game to make up all the times I lost with them this year.

Usually its the other way around: a team wins the NIT, and then builds on that the following season.

Florida did the same thing few years ago, three titles in a row

I think it shows alot of pride. They dont make the big tourney the year after winning it all, but win the small tourney. It shows they are winners. You lose senior leadership every year & have to rebuild a little. No shame in what they've done for sure

Pretty embarrassing to go from NCAA Champs to the NIT, who cares if they win it or not the season was a failure

When your entire championship team turns pro what do u expect? Had UNC made it to the NCAA it would've just been a 1st rd exit anyway like all these joke teams that win no name conference titles so they might as well be in the NIT and at least try to compete with similar crap teams and win the championship

the season was a failure no doubt, but they were a young team and look at the way kids like hensen are playing now they are getting experience for next year while on the road with sold out crowds. They are playing for pride they are North Carolina there embarrased there not in the big dance so they are making the best of their situation

Tough for big time winning schools to keep winning in college hoops, they lose to many young guys to pro leagues around world..

I would not be surprised if the banner is hung in the Carmichael Center. Too embarrassing to hang in the Dean Dome a year after the big one.

It's a DISGRACE that they didn't make it to NCAA, bottom line. All the UNC fans could care less about this, it's NOTHING. Winning the Not In Tournamant championship, please. I was watching the game last night with and avid UNC fan and he fell asleep. Obviously he would of never fell asleep if this were the REAL final four and not this childs play version for rejects.

Yeah it does mean something, you went from superior to mediocre in the span of one year. Congratulations North Carolina, you suck.

I remember Minnesota going to the Final Four in '97 and winning the NIT in '98. Although officially neither of those things happened.

how can a Eagles fan say any team sucks. Good god you talk about pathetic that would be the Eagles never winning a super bowl. Now Carolina on the other hand one bad year big deal. Think they will take the 2 championships they have won recently. And one of the greatest college basketball franchises of all time. Come on kids think before you post

This is very important to the coach. To think you win the ncaa one year & now in the NIT??? If you can't at least win the NIT what is that saying about your coaching abilities in getting these kids prepared for serious competition

North Carolina would be the first team in history to win the NIT the year after winning he NCAA Championship. It has happened the other way around before.

Still no conclusion if this is a superb feat or a "so what" feat. I am now thinking it is a superb feat because it is still a tournament of teams that did not make the ncaa tourney. Beating UAB, URI, and maybe Dayton is pretty good with none of your top players from last year. Years from now no one will Remember this as a "bad year" for Roy Williams. It will be on his epitaph. Only coach to do or first coach to do it.

No doubt it means UNC has gone from great to mediocre, but at the same time, they have shown great character by showing up for these games, and an NIT title could be a nice stepping stone to next season.

All that said, I would have a tough time betting against Dayton right now.
