    Check Canceled (Stop Payment)...Experiences?
    Good day.....

I'm wondering if anybody else has had a situation like the following. 12 days ago I checked my bank account, and saw that a "Stop Payment" had been issued on a cashier's check that I had received from a sportbook, a very reputable, highly rated sportbook.

As noted, that was 12 days ago, and I still have no idea what has happened to the funds that I had cashed ($3,000). Obviously, they are no longer in my bank account and have not reappeared in my sportbook balance. Essentially, $3,000 has disappeared and is floating around somewhere out there in cyberspace.

Has anybody had a similar experience? I have repeatedly contacted the sportbook in question, but as of this moment, nearly 2 weeks on, I have not been given a reason why the check was canceled and more troublesome, I continue to have no idea where the funds are.

The reason I ask if anybody has a similar experience is because I'm wondering if it actually takes this long for the whole process of a canceled check to work it's way back through the system, back to the payment processor that actually issued the Stop payment, etc. Hell if I know how it works, but it just seems to me that 12 days, and counting, without an answer is a fairly unacceptable time frame.

PS: Not to be a whinny, but seeing that I continue to have a significant balance there, I'd rather not name the book. Paranoid yes, but I would like to make sure there are not any other "Unforseen delays".....Anyway, thanks for reading.

I didn't have a stop check, but I did get a returned check from a poker site after there bank account had been closed. I'm still working with them to get paid again, but it was for significantly less than you.

It would usually take 5 business days for the check to clear, though sometimes longer. In this case, I believe I had just cashed it the day before so it was still a week away from clearing.

this is why i avoid getting checks at all cost. i think ive gotten a few, but it's a risk. people think when they receive a check in the mail that they've been paid. this isn't true. a check is nothing really more than a promise to pay. i don't want to worry about the damn thing bouncing because the fed's popped some bank.

Well, hopefully I have a similar development. I have checked my email for the first time in a while, and have been informed that a check has apparently been reissued. So hopefully it arrives soon...Always a bit unnerving to see funds deleted from your bank account, I must say. Not one of the more pleasant sights one will ever see.

if you get checks you should deposit into an account and let it clear or have a seperate account from your personal at another bank that way if you just cash them it doesnt mess up your finances

I agree Remmy, completely. Unfortunately, in this situation, I had no other fall back option in terms of methods to withdraw. Neteller used to be my one and only payment/withdraw method, until they nuked their Canadian market...I've actually been pleasantly surprised with the whole "Payment by check" process, this last one aside, of course. In my experience, it's usually arrived in day or two. Just the bloody "waiting to clear" period that's a pain.

i've done the check too. i'll never do it again. they aren't 100% guaranteed for 30 days.

remmy there are no other options at this point but to get checks. Assuming you are american.

Stumpage good to hear they are reissuing another check. If it was an A book you will get the funds one way or another.

Thanks WileOut.....Yeah, I agree. I have no doubt the funds will find their way to me, but still unnerving when you see "STOP PAYMENT", just like that, in capital letters. Surprised it wasn't Bolded and in Flaming red.

                            Great avatar, by the way.
