An "all-you-can-drink" Preakness Stakes - interesting
Pimlico to offer all-you-can-drink at Preakness

    By Matt Hegarty

Patrons in the infield at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore on Preakness Stakes Day on May 15 will be able to receive unlimited refills of beer for $20, according to the racetrack.

The new policy is designed to placate critics of a ban implemented last year on bringing any beverages into the infield. In 2009, the first year of the ban, attendance at the Preakness dropped by 34,000 people, from more than 101,000 to 77,850, a 30.6 percent drop.

Although infield customers will continue to be prohibited from bringing any drinks into the track, patrons will be allowed to buy a 16-ounce mug in the infield that can be filled an unlimited number of times. In addition, Pimlico said that a beer garden in the infield will offer $1 12-ounce beers from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Admission to the infield this year will cost $40 in advance, and $50 on the day of the Preakness, Pimlico said. Last year, infield admission was $50 regardless of when the ticket was purchased.

Aside from cheap beer, entertainment in the infield - where horse racing is at best a secondary distraction - will include concerts by the Zac Brown Band and O.A.R. There will also be a cornhole tournament among local bars, a bikini contest, a professional women's beach volleyball doubles tournament, and a scavenger hunt, Pimlico said.

          I will never go back.

The infield at the Preakness used to be one of the best parties ever. I went for about 10 straight years, 98-2008.

now that they caved to pressure (re: the continuing pussification of America), I will not even consider attending.

funny how they are bending over backwards to try and not have an other HUGE drop-off in attendance for a second consecutive year...

Exlain PLEASE. I don't understand how having a big party, with bands, bags, Beer is pussifying America.

I think I may have to go, since I enjoy Zac Brown Band and I really enjoy some good OAR.

I did read on the site it's 60$ for the infield Mug club.

they used to allow you to bring in as much beer and alcohol as you wanted-that was the draw of the Preakness-the infield was the party, they was no need to create an atmosphere. We used to roll in there with kegs and a slip and slide...

I imagine it would be a half hour+ wait to get a beer refilled with this deal...

                screw the Preakness.

                      Such thing exists?

In all seriousness though, unlimited beer, bikini contest and women volleyball players? How could that not be fun?

O.A.R puts on a good concert.

Bruce I see what you're saying now...I didn't know they allowed you to BYOB, that would get even more out of hand than 20 bucks unlimited beer.

I heard somewhere that broads have been raped on the infield at the Derby. Not sure if its true.
