if you're looking out for self-interest, gamblers would be libertarians and libertarians would be best served (across the entire spectrum of political interests) by voting republican. the problem here is that republicans are against gambling because of the morality of it (the "christian right"). republicans in 2010 are a coalition of the christian right (moral issues), free market capitalists (pro-business), and libertarians (small government). its hard to appease all parties here.

voting for democrats is basically an A-OK to: ballooning the deficit, raising taxes, and letting the government take even greater control of your life.

Actually, the American Republicans are now basically Democrats since they:

1) start wars (check history, the Demos started most of them except for W's Daddy who did two).
2) can't balance budgets (W and his evil henchmen started this round and now the Demos have continued)
3) want to run your life for you (Partiot act, gambling laws, etc, etc).
4) are obstructionists (do it our way...wah!)

So why don't we just start calling them Democrats part 2?

It was actually amended into the Safe Harbor act after everyone had left, and given instructions on the vote. In essence, no one knew they voted for the UIGEA.
