The New York Yankees have sent catcher/designated hitter Brian McCann to the Houston Astros in exchange for pitching prospects Albert Abreu and Jorge Guzman, the clubs announced Thursday.
The move of McCann from the Yankees to the Astros has been rumored ever since the offseason began and it makes a lot of sense for both sides. The rebuild-on-the-fly Yankees have phenom Gary Sanchez already implemented as their catcher of both the present and future. Carrying a five-year, $85 million catcher to use as DH seemed a waste of resources, so McCann was an obvious candidate to be dealt.
