Count me in on those that are struggling.
this is why there is such an uproar when sbr changes their points policies in ways that are less advantageous to posters
a lot of guys on here count on points as part of their overall financial picture, and when you take away points from posters you are literally taking food off of their tables, in the form of pizzaComment -

#40Originally posted by ngates815Young people need to save there money, and not go out drinking every night when they turn 21....Get some beer and split it with buddies and watch sports or **** around whatever, just don't blow all your money at bars. My brother going into college had 14k saved up, came home after his junior year with 1k, and it was all spent at bars and random shit.
I didn't go to college, I worked full time from high school...had 30K saved up and my 25K car paid off all by the time I turned 22. Bought a house and put down 25K. Now I'm 25, and I make less than I did when I was 18/19, but I have a company with my father, and it's awesome, much better than working for a boss. My g/f lives with me, and she makes 72K a year, and I only make 45K now.
I don't make too much, but life is fantastic, you just need to save money and realize that when you're young otherwise it'll of been too late, and you'll be in debt.Comment -

So I wouldn't. Rent for now and save and push yourself professionally. The time to buy a house will come.Comment -

#49oh and for the record im not talking about people scamming...although I would rather see someone scam the government than scam other people...and let me tell you...there are ALOT of people now days who scam other people daily and have no regrets whatsoever
Im talking about people who go through the proper channels of the systemComment -

Glad to hear from you, also, Devil Dog. Watched The Pacific debut on HBO last night (Part 1 was pretty good, a 10 part series) and another great WW2 feature on the Military channel from WW2. I'd like to go back into the Corps these dayz, but I'm to old and beat up.

#51Originally posted by SBR_JohnIts a good question and depends more on your own priorities. I would NEVER advise someone to cash in an IRA before they want to retire. In my opinion it should be your 1st priority in life. I say that because you will feel better and live a better life if you keep saving. Its security.
So I wouldn't. Rent for now and save and push yourself professionally. The time to buy a house will come.
thanks for your input. i havent looked into it, but i have heard that you can take out money from your roth IRA (tax free and penatly free) if and only if it goes towards the purchase of your first home. can anybody clarify this?Comment -

#53I have been involved with over 10 soup kitchens ,and 5 church pantrys around my state, the soup kitchens have grown from 80 -100 steady customers a day for three meals and that has blown up to nearly 240-280 perday, I gave them 2 volunters that i pay for, and I personally go shopping 2 sometimes 3 times a week spending 100 per time, of course their are alot of people who buy food I would think they spend at least 2000 per week, the churches are different all can goods again I donate to all five pantrys and thats another250 dollars per week. the pantrys have over 50 volunters that either give money or time, the point is my donations are doubled in the last 5 years meaning thats how many people are poor, many have problems with their teeth and I introduced my dentist into helping, times are as bad as 1930's but they are hidden today.Comment -

#58Never understood the silliness of people buying a home for 159,000 and then being upset when its estimated value is 143,000 six months later.
There is too much of that silly "home flipping" mentality. You dont buy a house hoping it will go up in value and you can sell it next month for a profit. There are too many extra costs associated for someone to think they can flip a house for a profit. Closing costs, loan costs, insurance, interest, and so on. Its not hard to see whyso many people lost their asses trying to flip houses.
Here is an idea. Buy a house that you want to live in for the rest of your life, at a payment that you can afford. Then it doesnt matter 1 bit what some silly valuation says your house is worth.Comment -

#60Divorce rate should skyrocket in this bad economy, but I have not heard of an uptick in the divorce rate lately. Especially since money is the number one cause of divorce. I have had two buddies who have lost their jobs and one who also got divorced. Struggling seems to be the old comfortable.Comment -
